Default trunk release inoperable

The trunk release switch does not open the trunk. It worked fine until a few days ago.

Anything I can look for?

Thanks!

I would take a test light and check if any current gets to the trunk release solenoid located on the trunk lid. Just find a good ground anywhere on the body and test both wires of the solenoid while someone else activates the trunk relese button. If the current is there, then it's your solenoid. Else, it may be the button itself of one of the fuses.

had the same problem last year. A shop told me I needed some
new trunk lock mechanisim for a couple hundred dollars. I opted
not to repair it. I then came across the problem a few months ago
when my brake lights went out. the wires going to the lock and the
brakes on the trunk lid became brittle and broke. Check the left
hinge of your trunk, you will see the wires. See if one of them is
spliced. Good luck!

I've had the trunk latches replaced twice under warranty in my 2001 LS 430. Second time finally fixed the problem.

do you have the trunk release button inside your glovebox? in my es, i could open the glovebox and disable the button so i could give the car to valet without worry.... dont know if you have that, but its something to check...

No, it's on the left side by the parking brake. It's disabled with a key.

Thankfully my problem was with the key lock. After I wiggled it to lock/unlock a few times, the trunk button started working flawlessly. It's good to get an easy fix once in a while.
