Default 1997 Hid Headlamps

I have a 1997 ES300 and was wondering if there is a diiference between the headlamps that came with factory HID's compared to the headlamps that came without factory HID's. If they are the same part how would I go about upgrading to the factory HID system.

The 00-01 came with optional HID headlamps. The reflector housing is different than those that are halogen. They are made to accomodate D2R bulbs. They will fit your 97 with no problem as the mounting bolts are the same. Check out the ES300 forum or do a search for more info.

SO the 01+ headlights are a direct fit to a 97 ES?

Only the 00-01 headlights that are HID are a direct fit for the 97.
I think that is what I said. RIGHT?

Is there any additional wiring or cutting that needs to be done to accommodate the newer lights or is it a direct swap.. Just bolt and go? thanks

To mount the `01 housing to a non-HID ES (97-01) you will have to CUT some parts of the metal radiator support. You will have to cut two parts one above and one below the housing - one section is about 2"x.75" and the other is long, about 3.5"x1"

When I bought mine, I had no idea that you have to modify it. Its probably because of the ballasts thats mounted under the housing.

It sounds like only the radiator needs modifying.. What about any wires? Do all the plugs match up correctly to the lights?

there needs to be small slices cut into the radiator support. it does not take much work really. just a simple hacksaw will do the job. not much work required at all really. just a matter of where to find the oem hid setup is the problem.
