Default 2014 RX 350 wheel lug torque?

The manual states 76 ft. pounds. My torque wrench only has increments of 10 ft. pnds. So it's either 70 or 80. Would one of these setting be acceptable? I usually remove my own wheels for cleaning, rotating…

Thanks!

charley95, as you stated Lexus recommends 76 ft lbs of torque to tighten the lug nuts. We assume a portion of that torque comes from starting the lug nut by hand which can account for the 6 ft lbs. We recommend you consult with a Lexus Technician for additional information. We are sorry we cannot offer more insight. We hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply! I'll ask them when they do my first oil change.

80 ft-lbs. The point of torqueing the nuts is not to tighten them to 120-150+ ft-lbs that you might get by hand or with an impact wrench

Because that's what your torque wrench will deliver! A little over is better than a little under when it's such a small amount.

I agree 4 ft. lbs. is no big deal and a little over is OK. I never understood the 76 spec anyway. I mean come on, why not just 75. No one has a torque wrench that accurate anyway and those torque sticks they use at tire places are notorious for being inaccurate. The only reason I could see the 76 vs. 75 is it is a conversion from metric and that is what it comes out to. Some one may have the answer to that.

Then 80 it will be. 76 is strange to me, every car I've ever owned was a 100.

What are the consequences of doing 100 instead of 80?? Harder to remove the wheels next time??

I'm sorry but that bolded portion is the craziest thing I've ever read about torque, and this from Lexus Customer Service???

Not a good credibility start to this forum

I second that. I never heard of anything like that. The only thing crazier that has been on this forum is that when Nitrous is used instead of air the ride improved. Sorry about the misstatement, I meant Nitrogen not nitrous. No one puts nitrous in their tires. I assume!

Very funny.

By the way, when I go to PCA track events the inspection techs always push the torque up to 96lb.

If they do this to Toyota/Lexus vehicles, they're idiots. Would you fly on an airplane where the engine mounts were tightened more than specified by the manufacturer because maintenance didn't have a torque wrench capable of setting the correct torque? I wouldn't.

Wheels breaking studs from overtightening is no joke.
