good stuff.

we ran two sets of 165K2P's off of the 4.150 and 3 10W6v2's off of the 1.1000

great power for such a small package, and the regulated power is a real nice benefit as well. they are especially good if you need to save space, and the stacking effect is kinda cool too.

what are you running off of them?

you know they are similar to the JL amps right? the JL has a more sophisticated regulated power supply though, which is mainly used in the sub arena. the multichannel amps(alpine) are good at 2 or 4 ohms, which many other speakers don't need to be taken down further than 2 ohms. the JL slash series amps are all regulated from 1.5-4ohms full power.

only reason i can think of is: Matching Amps and upgraded power.

Wanting them to match and having speakers that require over 100 watts RMS per channel. If he wanted to stick with JL he could have gone with the 1000/1 and the 450/4 however the 450 is 150 RMS to the fronts and 75 RMS to the rear.

just a thought

Wow, you are pretty much doing the same thing as me.

I just got my PDX1.1000 and PDX4.150 and I am currently working on a new set-up design. I am running a JL13W7 and a set of Type X 6.5's in fibreglass pods for my SC400. The 450 will bi-amp the components up front (just because I can!) and I will not be running rear speakers. I am working on a fibreglass spare-tire tub which will be roughly 2 cubes sealed for the 13W7.

Good to see other happy users of the new Alpine gear.

^^ Well the plan is it will be sealed, custom formed and moulded, body-colored enclosure with factory carpeted, matching vinyl inserts (tan), hidden and classy looking custom neon tubing withont the false floor and a custom back wall with proper grille for easier breathing.

Amps with be built into the trunk lid underside OR behind the front seats in false floors done in factory carpeting, plexi and neon. The idea is to make things very stealth, simple and beautiful. No waterfalls or goofy stuff here.

Not sure about switching out the JL's for the Alpines will make much difference to the everyday sound you hear. They sure are cool looking and we have had success installing them so you shouldnt lose much either. Seems like a lateral move but nice none the less.
