LC500H opinion
Thinking of 2018 LC500H with 47K miles. I know the V-8 is the preferred but interested in feedback from members and owners.
Given I’m 78yo and would be our 2nd car. Most likely my last fun car. To me :The .4 second 0-60 slower is no concern, the lack of visceral V-8 sound is no concern. I like 30 mpg possibility. Other than that I find no difference. Resale value probably not concern to me.
Just looking from pro-con that others may have. Love the car styling and a Lexus supporter. I have 2015 LS460L as other driver.
After years of collector car hobby and 50 various cars I’m ready to not be an owner of older cars anymore. Really like back up camera, parking assist, etc. Anyone wanting to comment is appreciated.

I believe there are 2 LC500h ownes on this site. Here are posts from another thread:
As you can see one is from the UK, the other from California. Electrification is the future and if that's what you want, GRAB it. The hybrid LC is vary rare, especially in the US. If you procrastinate on this deal, you may not find another one. BTW, 78 aint so old - I'm 84
The "h" suits me just fine, and I really don't feel I am missing too much, albeit I would almost certainly change my tune if a V8 were doable
.
I know I am all but alone in not wanting theatre and I've always preferred stealth mode which with a careful right foot the electric motors can and do provide. As for the hybrid battery, then here in the UK there is a 15 year guarantee, and realistically I really wouldn't expect there to be any problems with that, not that I would keep the car that long.
Now that we in the UK are paying upwards of 13$ for a US gallon then the extra mpg is tangible. If there is a negative then it's the cvt which can and does lose the plot going downhill and tries to brake the engine when doing so.
Quite a weird experience but other than that all is good.

For me, the fuel efficiency isn't about the price of gas as opposed to reducing the amount of trip to the gas station I'd need to take with the enhanced range.... Saving time, which I value more, than money. She's a grand touring, not a sports car so the v8 (granted sounds great), wasn't as high as priority for me. For the daily city driving I normally do plus California freeway traffic, I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the v8 top end much anyways. However, I do feel that electric engine instant torque at every light which is highly enjoyable. Additionally, if you're going to get a hybrid... no one has had more time and engineering in the technology than Toyota.

they all have the back up camera and if you've driven any other system (i.e 360 degree camera) you'll find the parking assist on the LC lacking.
The downsides to the Hybrid is the overall added complexity. Not only do you have gasoline components, you also now inject hybrid components and tied together with a bespoke transmission that's one off for the LC500h. Sure it'll save you some fuel, but like all hybrids eventually you'll have to replace the hybrid battery and when that day comes, all your fuel savings goes out the door. Just like my 400h (i gave to my father). His battery replacement from lexus was quoted at 11,000 dollars.
you'll have less resale value, more complexity, less visceral experience, additional service requirements (inverter fluid, hybrid components, etc) and less performance. Doesnt make a lot of sense in my book, but im sure the 1-2 LC500h owners on here will tell you and me otherwise.

dktoyz, if 30mpg is appealing, go for it, but amazingly the v8 LC gets 25+ mpg when cruising. the 10 speed auto really helps for sure. at 75mph i think the car is running about 1500rpm
even if my lc got 5mpg i'd still own it over the hybrid but then i don't drive a ton of miles in mine.

man at 78, you've earned the right to follow your heart's desire, so go ahead and get the LC.
its an amazing ride and after you've driven it for awhile you'll agree that for the bucks there is nothing else like it on earth.
at 73, my heart's been happier ever since i got mine !

I'll also add to what bitkahuna suggests, that perhaps mpg shouldn't be a prime consideration especially when US fuel is so cheap at least compared to here in the UK. Honest guys you don't know how lucky you are! It's an easy calculation and if you are proposing to do low miles then the cost difference might be meaningless. I'd also add the hybrid drive train does a pretty good job of mimicking a true auto box but there's no hiding it is a cvt albeit 4 off the 10 "gears" (don't ask me which) are genuine auto!
Swings and roundabouts when it comes to what it can and can't do but as an overall package it is a GT and never will be a sports car. It's still a unique experience and has all the looks and comfort of the V8 but without that glorious soundtrack. The latter may or may not be important to you but here in the UK it sometimes seems most other drivers are boy racers driving their very loud cackling tin pot bangers that are all show and no go. The LC by comparison just wafts along like a refined lady above all that vulgarity but can, when in the mood, still show she is a demon in disguise.
Take it out for a test drive, cover as many driving scenarios as possible and then judge for yourself. Good luck with whatever you eventually choose.

Hello everyone. Living in Paris france. Sold my C5 corvette for a 2018 LC500H 4 months ago. Driving mostly in town. Very pleased with my choice. Hesitated with a 911 but no regret so far. OK the V8 sound is not there but for the rest it is as per the LC500. Paid 68000€ for a 2018 with about 25K miles. The only complain I have is that it is lacking applecar play. Dealer say ting that retrofit is not possible 🙄 went to a specialist shop m this morning who told me he can install an aftermarket box. Quite expensive with labor but gave him my OK.
performance of the 500H is on par with my old corvette. Confort is great and this véhicule is quite exotic in our roads around here.

I’m from the UK and a fair percentage of LCs here are hybrids. Mine will be a V8 but as an EV driver for several years I completely ‘get’ the hybrid option. Yes it’s maybe more complicated but it’s silent when you want it to be, more economical and you don’t lose any of the design, spec or plus points of the LC except the noise and the drivetrain interaction. Yes, it just ‘wafts’!
The hybrid V6 is also used in other Lexuses - it seems as bulletproof as the petrol set up from what I’ve read.
