True. Mine is a coupe and if it ever shows up I'll be happy to dig around lol

If you want to control the valves just get this. I installed it earlier this year and its a very easy install and give you control via a small remote or programmed to your HomeLink. $300.

It's been reported that this doesn't work for 24s.

Well, I just checked out the fuse panel located in the trunk of my 2024 and it is the same as the vert. There is no 15 amp fuse in the EFI slot. It is empty.

Thanks and bummer. That would have been a super easy way to toggle.

Oh well, I'll probably just leave it and enjoy it the way it was designed

Default Exhaust valve operation

Does anyone truly know when the stock valves are opened by the ECM? I’ve got a new 24, no complaints, sounds awesome, yet super-quite cruising.. as I understand, valves are operating strictly by the ECM.. just wondering if anyone really knows how the ECM logic determines when to open? Speed, throttle location, drive mode, etc…Just a talking point for my own personal education on the LC design. I like owing 100% Lexus builds, would never make any mechanical mods, especially during warranty…

From my understanding it's a mix of drive mode and/or engine speed

try check out the induction wail you get ~ 6000 rpm ; sounds awesome, almost like an f1
you can hear the wail in some of the lexus performance school videos.
had mine up there once; terror of another infraction limits my attempts to enjoy more ...
but its all natural, just the roar of a beautifully tuned naturally aspirated good old V8

I enjoy doing this type of "hacking" stuff! Hopefully a few other people can benefit. I will post all the designs and code once I am finished so other people can recreate it.
I will have further updates of my findings/development in this thread if anyone is curious.
I tried to look at this updates thread, but got, " You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

Will read on, maybe get an explanation later in the thread.

So I revisited this and found a diagram that shows there was a changeover in May 2023 production. Lines up with 2024MY. It seems the "Exhaust Change Valve Driver No. 1" (X80) and "Exhaust Change Valve Driver No. 2" (X81) were omitted from the design and their functions were merged into the main ECU and it drives the exhaust valves directly. The old design was two separate modules handling their respective valves along with a fuse (ECU 5) to power them. I'm assuming these are the two modules that plug and play kit interfaces with. Being that the modules are now gone, that kit won't work with the 2024's as we've already previously known. These modules are part number 89878-11020 and are $839.74 a piece.

What's this mean for the 2024 guys? Well, you're unplugging the valves directly (under car) to achieve this mod. However, please know this. You're unplugging a directly driven actuator from the main ECU. Having this wire unprotected underneath the vehicle may present dangers to the driver built into the ECU. While most/all ECU driver circuits have built in protections, this new danger exists that the old design does not suffer from. The old design has divorced modules and a separate fuse, essentially shielding the ECU. The whole thing can explode and the ECU will be fine.

Now, the ECU handles everything, including full valve current duties. So if you're doing this, make sure it's tucked up and away from anything that can short the wires. Take some sort of measures to waterproof the connector.

My convertible is a 2023MY. I am still checking out the sounds, but when I select Manual and use the paddle shifters, the exhaust sounds louder than when in Sport+ Mode. Meaning, the valves are not always open in Sport+, but may depend on throttle position, engine speed, etc.

I could be wrong, I could just be hearing the higher rpm's in Manual. As I say, I am still checking this out. I am not going to disconnect the cables underneath, but am driving in Manual mode a lot. As mentioned earlier, I too, like the sound of the exhaust when driving between 4 and 6K rpm.

I think that is probably because in Paddle mode you are not at the lowest possible RPM, unless you are always in the top gear you could possible be in, which is what the Auto transmission in Sport+ will do (exception of highway speeds, where Sport+ auto will not shift past 8. With paddles you can get to 9 and 10 even in sport+).

For example, driving in M mode with paddles at 40mph, you might find yourself in 4th or 5th gear, but if you were in Auto, it would be in 7th. Thus, you hear more exhaust/engine note while in M mode.

^^^ It doesn't sound like my exhaust valves are always open in Sport+ mode (I believe that was a conclusion earlier in this thread). For example, the car starts w the valves open, then quiets down, and when I switch to Sport+ mode, there is no corresponding increase in exhaust note, back to how it sounded when it started.
