My car previously threw P0156 constantly, and we discovered an O2 eliminator poorly installed by the previous owner. My Lexus master tech buddy fixed it with the connectors pictured above.
Yes, it's certainly possible the connectors are not happy. If it were mine, I'd ditch them and replace them with uninsulated butt connectors and put heat shrink tubing over the connectors. I'm big on introducing as few opportunities for failure as possible, and any connector you can take apart is not as reliable as one you can't take apart.

What would you do with the partially stripped wire that they tapped (second from the left)?
This has driven me borderline insane… but everything else that could be wrong has been replaced.
As I previously mentioned in this thread before, I have been having this exact same issue/code for the last six months. Very annoying. After trying different things, I gave up and went to the dealership, thinking this might be an ECU issue. Fortunately for me and my wallet, they found a broken wire near the ECU from the bank 2 sensor 2 O2 sensor, and fixed it at no cost. Issue seems to be resolved now.

Thanks for reporting back. This confirms that my issue is the wiring. Hopefully I can carve some time out Saturday to get this resolved.
