Can you elaborate on the issue and how to replicate ? You are on all latest, correct ?

I'm interested in pre-ordering the new VL 2 before the 15th so I can get it cheaper but I got some questions for anyone that has the VL1 or knows about the VL2. So I bought a 2017 CT 200h, I don't have the car yet to test it out, got it from an auction so I'm waiting for the repairs to be done. I don't know if the nav screen in the car is a touch screen or not (can someone confirm?) but I know it has that stupid mouse like navigation thing to control the infotainment system. With the VL2 can I use that mouse thing in the car to make selections since I'm not sure if it is a touch screen or not?

Also again, not sure, would appreciate if someone can confirm. I don't like bluetooth audio streaming, quality is horrible, don't care how great people think it is. I prefer audio through USB in the car. I don't know if by default the car allows USB audio through an android phone or not, but if not can I use the VL2 and play audio through the speakers of my car from my android phone via usb connection?

I've never used my phone has a hotspot, I don't know how speeds are etc. Can I just plug in my phone through a USB cable and have android auto run off of it? You know like a standard head unit, you don't need internet tethering for that, you just plugin in your phone so you can use google maps etc. Is it possible with the VL2 for me to do that? Like if speeds aren't great and I don't want to get a hotspot plan, I just want to plug in my phone and have google maps run. Does that make sense? Also I'm not talking about phone mirroring where my phone's screen needs to be on or anything.

How long does it take for the system to boot when I turn the car on? How often does it crash?

Can't help you here, but I watched the Nissan videos, and they use their little control joystick thing to make selections.

Not sure about this one either because I use Apple CarPlay to listen to music, but you might be able to use your android phone as a storage device if it has songs on the hard drive.

Hot spot speeds are sufficient for anything you would use the VLINE for. Again, I can't answer to the android auto part, I know people have used a workaround to use Android Auto on the VLINE, but you might have to wait for someone else to answer, or just go back through this thread. You should be able to just use your phone as a hotspot without getting a plan, it won't use much more, if any more, than if you were just using it for navigation on your phone.

It takes about 20-30 seconds to boot depending on what apps you have loaded. Mine rarely crashes anymore, there are some rare instances, but it boots right back up without having to reset or stop driving. Before it would get caught in a boot loop and would have to be restarted, but Grom has done a great job of making the unit stable, at least in my experience. The early growing pains are gone and Grom has been here the whole way addressing any issues that do present themselves.

Don't fall for the word "presale" because what you really will be is a "beta tester". Don't have high hopes and you'll probably be happy.

Default CarPlay activations

Hello.
Only bought VLine1
I do not understand how to activate the CarPlay. This feature is disabled due to problems with Apple? How can I resolve it? You can write in private messages

Well mine is no longer working after I did the OTA. Not sure if you did the same thing. I see the carplay icon which is grayed then I plug in my iPhone it turns green for 2 seconds then goes back to grey.

Is yours doing the same thing?

In the past this was required, see if it resolves the issue:
  • Click on Grey Apple Carplay icon.
  • Then tap on the Activate Carplay UI option 11 times to reactivate Carplay option.
It fixes the issue where it remains grey. Since yours goes green briefly that may be something else. Please report back with the fix. I don't plan to update until I'm sure this is resolved.

Make sure to use USB1 port (top), lower port is for USB Flash drives and other peripherals.

Thank you for getting back although nothing has been moved.
For clarification, it was working prior to the ota update.

Its a semi-regular occurrence for that behavior. As you found out, it’s fixed by unplugging the phone and plugging it back in. Normal behavior is for the CarPlay splash screen to pop up on the phone screen when you plug it in. When the green doesn’t stay on, or occasionally does stay on, but none of the CarPlay features work (tapping the green icon doesn’t take you to the CarPlay app screen) I notice that CarPlay doesn’t seem to start on the phone (no CarPlay splash screen on the phone). Seems like it happens more often if the phone isn’t on the lock screen (ie - doing something on the phone, screen active, plug into the vline).

Are they providing the equipment and installing it for free? If so, then do it. If you're paying presale, IMO I don't think it's worth that presale price. I personally wouldn't pay more than $300 until they get it running as smooth as our daily phones. I have an old Android phone with a slower cpu than VL1 and it runs smoother and more reliably than it. There's something that is eating up a lot of RAM or cpu and it's still buggy. It's nowhere near as smooth as they show on their videos posted on their site and thatst after a clean factory reset on it. Just my experience.
