anyone getting the grom vline?
Are they providing the equipment and installing it for free? If so, then do it. If you're paying presale, IMO I don't think it's worth that presale price. I personally wouldn't pay more than $300 until they get it running as smooth as our daily phones. I have an old Android phone with a slower cpu than VL1 and it runs smoother and more reliably than it. There's something that is eating up a lot of RAM or cpu and it's still buggy. It's nowhere near as smooth as they show on their videos posted on their site and thatst after a clean factory reset on it. Just my experience.
Dropping $465 on something that will arrive just 2 months from now, makes me a little nervous. It has so much potential though, hence the purchase.
Do these go pretty well on Ebay? Worst case scenario, I drop it on Ebay if it's buggy garbage..right? :-)
We expect this to happen around early May, so stay tuned !
Its a semi-regular occurrence for that behavior. As you found out, it’s fixed by unplugging the phone and plugging it back in. Normal behavior is for the CarPlay splash screen to pop up on the phone screen when you plug it in. When the green doesn’t stay on, or occasionally does stay on, but none of the CarPlay features work (tapping the green icon doesn’t take you to the CarPlay app screen) I notice that CarPlay doesn’t seem to start on the phone (no CarPlay splash screen on the phone). Seems like it happens more often if the phone isn’t on the lock screen (ie - doing something on the phone, screen active, plug into the vline).

Glad I decided not to buy in on this first wave.

+1, and this is exactly why I stayed out. I felt like an alpha tester with VL1, I guess with VL2 ya'll can feel like beta testers.
All existing apps are working properly, we are adding optimizations for new MCU, GPU improvements, HDMI out, AirPlay receivers and so on. We will want as slick UI experience as it can be. It will take couple of weeks to finish, but once we are happy with it, we will start making live videos.
We need high definition codec for the Bluetooth... Can it be added other than the proprietary Qualcomm-Optimized AptxHD ?
When I connect to 2017 BMW X1 I get HD audio I'm my phone Bluetooth and yes the sound is amazing compared to regular Bluetooth streaming.

@GromAudio - to confirm, the VL2 will support the 2008 ISF equipped with factory Mark Levinson Audio & Factory Nav, and this model contains CarPlay compatibility, correct? Your website is not very specific, and typical audio systems vary for these cars based on those options so I just want to be safe. If this is the case, I will be very excited to see this begin shipping.
Can you point me to more info about this? The only “HD” Bluetooth I’m aware of is AptX and LDAC. Both are proprietary. I don’t see anything special BMW has to make BT better.

Just wanted to add that IF BMW's iDrive HU (combox?) supports negotiating a 320kbps MP3 or AAC-codec (not SBC) stream using A2DP AND your Bluetooth music-playing device can do the same on its end, then you can have USB-equivalent quality over Bluetooth. But I have no idea if iDrive supports this mode or how common it is for most devices (phones) to support this. But even the worst SBC quality mode is better than the best Sirius/XM rate - 56kbps aint enough even with the best codec.
