Default Navigation Map Update 2013 (Version 13.1)

They have just released an update, Sewell Lexus has it for $165... Are map updates covered under warranty?

No, not a warranty item at all. If you use the nav for POIs the update will help, but generally they are very dependent on exactly where you are whether it's really worth it or not.

I WISH it was covered under warranty!

I would pay to improve the interface with the nav, the streets haven't changed much in two years

Just curious, if you purchase from Sewell or eBay, do you still need a dealer to perform the actual update, or is it DIY?

I'm sure it's DIY; it's super easy (that's what I did for the RX)

My service advisor recommended me to just update it next year, he said that the dealership updates customers' navigation maps mostly every 2 years.

It's a very easy install. There are 2 pins located in the tools for your spare tire. Use the pins to push into the holes in the clock display on the dash (highlighted in red) and pull back the display. There is a secret dvd slot located behind. Use the display to eject your map dvd and replace. Just like that!

Your car is a '12? should be fine. Change it in '14 or '15.

That's to replace the nav DVD for '08-'09 running the Gen5 head unit. The Gen6 system is a USB I believe but since I've got an '08 this is how I do it.

A '12 should be an USB update and the dealer has to download install at around an hour labor.
