I was wondering if you can drive without the plastics that are in the engine, such as the white cover with the F logo, and the plastic that surround it, such as the plastic on top of the suspensions, because I like to change my KW settings a lot and switching them is a hassle. Would the engine get damaged in any way? any problems in the future?
If i were you i would leave the plastic cover over the engine with the F logo on it. I don't see the point of the other plastics though. I would think you could take those off without any harm. But thats just my opinion.
The engine cover are only there for aesthetic reasons. Many people have removed them for the same reasons you are debating; its quite a hassle to do mechanic work with them. You will do no harm removing the covers.
Of course some will argue the covers reduce engine noise, but then again the covers could be trapping in extra heat. Either way, these two ideas are very nominal.
Why do you like to change your KW settings "a lot"? When I first installed my coilovers I left the covers off because I was constantly working on dialing them in, but once you get them adjusted to your liking there really isn't much of a need to make many more adjustments. I got my coilovers dialed in the way I like them after the first few weeks of the install and haven't touched them since even for track day.
To answer your question though about the covers you can certainly keep them off. I have them off most of the time myself.
I like switching them because when I know I'm going to do a lot of calm highway driving or just smooth daily driving I keep it on a pretty low rebound setting, but when I know I'm going to constantly take sharp corners I like to alter the settings, and I constantly switch between the two and taking the plastic on and off is a hassle.
I run without them at the track all the time. The engine runs cooler without the sound reducing heat trapping cover on top. Having the side pieces off makes bleeding the brakes a lot easier.
Thanks for all your responses, I'm going to run without an engine cover and all the side parts. The engine looks a lot more aggressive with all the wires and components showing, the only thing I'm worried about is dust getting in there and air coming in through through the grills into the intake since now there is no direct air into the intake it flows throughout the engine.
There is sound deadening material on the underside of the carbon fiber cover. Given the growl the car makes, I would be surprised if it deadens anything.
