I had mine off for a long time. The main engine cover cause I had a different engine brace before. I've seen a few others without it as well.

Not me... I don't have any mods that require to keep it off.

Also, there's no harm with driving without the cover. It's there for cosmetic purposes and to keep the dust away from the engine parts.

Maybe his point is asking who drives without the engine covers? I dunno...that's kind of what I get out of his post. I could be wrong though. I'm just going on a gut feeling here.

Someone just told me that the silver cover over the engine actually traps heat, and the engine would run cooler without it on...

I believe running the car without the cover will not cause any issues to the car.

Actually, I think its too see if anyone has problems/issues driving without their engine covers on. To the OP, if thats your point, then no its just a cover. Its really only there for covering up your engine.

Maybe Kurtz can chime in...

in my opinion, it makes no big difference with the heat. The hood is the key item trapping the heat.... not the engine cover.

It's like some people removing it to reduce weight on the car. Lighter car = faster car. But if you think about it, shaving a pound or 2, is not going to make a big difference.

So the purpose is mainly cosmetic and dust "protection" I presume.

The engine cover is not even 2lb, but it is used to trap heat and insulate sound. All the engine cover is is a plastic cover with about 1" of foam under, during the cold winter you might see some significant improvement with the engine temp if you turn off your car for a quick trip to the coffee shop.

I took mine off and I noticed the the engine ticking noise is more noticeable, which is nice because I wanted to hear more engine sound lol
