just wanted to make sure i'm reading you correctly... the replacement you got was an authentic Lexus sourced one (Lexus logo in the bottom left corner) & it still wasnt good quality, or did you mean you got an aftermarket sourced one from safelite & it wasnt as good?Originally Posted by OCJACKAL

I got it from safelite, but it has the Lexus logo on it as well.. Its supposed to be OEM equivalent but it really isn't

anyways, ill try & give a more detailed breakdown of the cost once i have the new glass installed & have a receipt in my hand so people can get an idea of what the costs are from an install/parts/recalibration standpoint.
my biggest concern for going with the more expensive Lexus glass was wanting to retain the OEM quality but also reading other peoples experience of aftermarket glass warping over time or increasing road noise (because of it being too thin). initially was going to go with the cheaper aftermarket but decided to get the Lexus replacement after reading some of those stories from other Lexus owners.
Driving on the A1 for a few days away during half term and stone chips soon turns into a full 12 inch crack. It didn’t seem that the stone hit that hard, I’ve had much worse on the works Astra which chipped but was simply repaired. Are these Lexus screens more fragile than others? also, anything to look out for or is it a case of calling auto glass and get it replaced. The car is IS300H 2105 exec. yeah for sure, I try to keep the reoccurring costs of ownership as low as possible & having higher deductibles allows for this on my current plan... especially in my area where its against the law to not have auto insurance (even though law now seems to be a suggestion in my country, especially if you're a billionaire or friends with one, but I digress). its a balance of trying to do the right thing while also covering my own *** in case of UTV Windshield emergency. the joys of insurance!anyways, ill try & give a more detailed breakdown of the cost once i have the new glass installed & have a receipt in my hand so people can get an idea of what the costs are from an install/parts/recalibration standpoint.

the only thing a glass shop might need is to recal the cruise/system... but im not entirely sure how they do that (i assume they just plug up to an ODB port & run a tablet/techstream).
I ended up taking mine to a big brand autoglass place, but you could also have the dealer do it (the reality is that they likely just contract out the same autoglass place, but require OEM glass to be used instead of aftermarket for warranty reasons). i think all said & done it was about $1200 to get it replaced with an authentic Lexus panel (it was about half that for aftermarket)
i dont think these windows are anymore fragile than other brands... i think some of us are just unlucky lol
