Agreed. Auto relock will never lock the doors after Parking the vehicle.
To the OP, if you had an older Toyota that did that, then it was not a factory function that was doing it for you.
I'm pretty sure the programmed logic (even for older cars like my Corolla) is when a locked parked car is unlocked, but no doors are opened within 10-15 seconds, then the car automatically locks itself.
However, as others stated, if you just finished driving, park and turn off the car, then open your door to leave while leaving the car unlocked, the car wouldn't automatically lock itself. That's normal function from the factory. It's only when you lock your car then unlock it without opening any doors will your car eventually re-lock itself.
The new Acura has that feature, it will lock the doors for you if the smart key fob leaves the car within a couple of feet
I'm sure it's a setting, but I think that would drive me nuts. There are many times that I want the car left unlocked, especially at home and in my garage.
