I'm completely new to this so please educate me. I was mainly looking to have a better sound, without drone, but now I'm debating between getting axleback vs catback for the performance and added rumble. I'm wondering if anyone has ever dynoed their car, or even noticed performance gains? My car is completely stock, and I don't want highway drone either.
Opinions?
I have the Q300 axleback and have not noticed any real performance gain. My IS does, however, sound way better than it did when it was stock. Neither my wife, or anyone who was rode with, has noticed any drone at all. I will argue that the debate of drone with axleback exhausts is subjective as some will say there is drone, some will say there is a little, and others will say that there is none. I do agree with most folks that there is definitely drone associated with catback exhausts, though, how much it affects one's driving is yet another subjective debate. Your safest bet is to reach out locally and see if you can get a ride-along with another 3IS owner who has the catback setup you are looking for. This way you get a first-hand feel towards figuring out what is best for you before investing in a purchase.

with Header you'll gain 5-7 peak hp its nothing but cool sound
So if it's 5-7hp with header, that means nothing much with catback? I read 10% on some generic (non manufacturer) websites for catback, but I guess it depends on the car.

look at redspencer said, its true !
If you want real gain, you need to do from HEADER or/and go straight, RR-racing has ECU tune, if you do all you probably gain 35-45HP

Thanks for that plug! The complete "power package" gain with exhaust, headers, and tune is 45hp on RWD, and more like 50hp on AWD. Seems like there are a bit more gains with the AWD.
