Got Stuck in a flash flood- PLEASE HELP!
my boyfriend got our car stuck during a flash flood, from his description the water ended up being knee deep. The car ended up shorting out (electronics were flashing) and shut off. Luckily the rain stopped and the car was not washed away however, as of a day ago, it would not start. We've had it sitting in our driveway for two days to let it dry out (we are in Phoenix area and it is hot). Any advice on preliminary actions to take to see if the engine is still good? Thanks for your advice neither one of us know anything about cars.

On the bright side, there is a good chance your engine might not be hydrolocked. That being said, replacing the electronics won't be much cheaper either. Your insurance company will possibly total out of the car, which imho, is a positive.

Is it an IS-F or some other Lexus?
Phoenix hot doesn't matter. The things you need to dry will stay wet for a very long time unless you know what you are looking for and have the mechanical aptitude to remove many connectors and dry them out with compressed air.

Wow, sucks! He's banned from driving your F if you guys get this straightened out!!!😬!!
On a more serious note, glad you guys made it thru that safely. Flash floods are no joke and unfortunately take a lot of lives when they happen.
Did you guys get it towed home? No police report for the insurance company?? I would get a friend/lock shop to check it out first to access the damage. Insurance companies can be shady, especially dealing with nicer vehicles. Ive personally seen and have had agents admit that they "total" out cars that shouldn't be totaled out, just so they or a friend/family member can buy it, then flip it for insane profits. Of course not all of them are like that, but they prey on people who are clueless about cars/vehicles/repairs/damage like you say you and your B/F are. Best of luck with the situation. Sorry to hear this.

^^^^Ya they do. But the world seems to be full of idiots. My F doesn't go out in the rain. The other nite I was out in the ran in my truck, and I drive more slowly when it rains, but you'd be surprised at the yahoos who don't, and drive through deep puddles like they weren't even there splashing water everywhere. I try to avoid those fools.

Drive it into a pool full of rice. That will dry it out.
