Am I missing something or why when I press the auto climate it would always bump the fan a/c up to maximum speed and never adjust itself? Defeats the purpose of auto climate control lol

Right, what he said. The fan blows and the air is redirected to adjust the temp to the set temperature whether it's cold or hot outside. It also adjusts to changing conditions such as fog, humidity, etc... There are still times where you may have to make manual adjustments. Also keep in mind that on Auto it will use the compressor thus decrease gas mileage. I often use Auto and then manually turn the compressor off by turning off the A/C to maximize MPG.

 

My wife thinks the temp you set on the display will be the temp of the air blowing out of the vents. On hot days she sets the temp to the lowest temp, 65 I think, because she wants the coldest air to fan her. I had to explain the temp setting is for the cabin temp and not necessarily the air temp out of the vents. I love this woman!

 

If you want to limit the fan speed when AC is on auto on AUTO you must go in the "CLIMATE" area on the nav menu and then click on "FAST - SOFT" to change the speed in which the selected temperature should be reached.

I suggest to use "MEDIUM" in most of the situations and "SOFT" if you want to slowly reach the temperature you want in a gentle way. I wouldn't reccommend "FAST" setting as the AC is very powerful "as is"!

Ps. Note that if you select on Drive Mode the ECO MODE setting the compressor and fans will use less energy and the ventilation will be less accurate.

To be fair I don't know if this works on IS 250/350 (do you have the ECO MODE setting?) but for sure it works on the 300h Hybrid as it's stated in the owner's manual.

 

Wait. That's what I thought. I thought the temperature you set is the temperature of the air.

 

Just like your house thermostat is the temp of the house... well at least the area around the thermostat. The temp set on the AC is the temp in the cabin.

 

Yup, you're telling the climate control system what temperature you want it to reach, not what temperature the air that it blows needs to be at. It will blow colder air until it reaches the desired temperature and then it'll adjust itself to maintain the desired temperature in the cabin.

So it IS automatic. Try increasing the desired temp while in auto mode. Once it gets close to the actual temp in the car, the fan speed should lower.

And yes, you have some adjustments you can make through the nav (or if you don't have nav, through the dealer or with the Carista app). Actually, the dealer and Carista can make even more adjustments than what's available through the nav UI.

 

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't believe the US cars have the ability to customize the Auto Climate Control. I've gone into the settings and can only adjust whether it is auto or not.
