Default LED Headlamps Up Close & Personal

Here's the IS350 with F-Sport package and the LED Headlamps, up close and detailed.

The lights have interesting gray "fins" inside, and I'm not sure what they are for, but I just noticed them in there. Anyway, take a closer look at the new LED Headlamps =]

Very interesting detail in these headlamps. I can't wait to see these on the road

There is most certainly a lot going on with those headlights. I like them!

The fins are heat sinks.

That's what they look like, but that makes no sense what-so-ever. What component of the headlight system produces so much heat that it needs dissipated through a passive heat exchanger? Some Japanese engineer probably giggles every time he thinks of the "origami headlight heat sinks" he designed. Artistic and functional? I'm curious.

From my basic research of LED headlights, they actually generate a large amount of heat in the assembly.

With the new heat sink headlights there won't be anymore bubbles. About time they thought of something.

I thought LED lights emitted less heat though?

The bulbs/diodes themselves emit less heat, but the electronics behind it generate a lot of heat.

In comparison with regular incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs are much cooler, but they still produce heat and that heat must be taken away from the light source to increase the life of the LED. The more the heat is dissipated and taken away from the source, the better it is for the source.

Great move that HIDs are standard and LEds are optional and they seem to be more readily available. I do miss the traditional 3 LED lamp look though.

And thank goodness Lexus has enough sense and class and taste not to make it look like a damn spider

nice lights, but wheel gap / fitment (even on f-sport!) is horrendous.

it looks less than before... considerably? My 2IS looks like SUV.

But personally i dont mind - how the heck would you put chains on with less gap than above? Plus, this is eastern europe... my 2IS has larger ground clearance than most cars... it helps with parking since we park on sidewalk sometimes :-)
