Default Programming a Key Fob w/o any Fobs

Hi all,

I got my wife a 2011 RX450 more than a year ago. Love that car. I decided to get one myself, after driving a Prius for more than year.

I scored a killer deal on a 2011 IS350 AWD from an auction. Low mileage and superb maintenance history. Some damage of course that I will fix.

But the main issue is, for some reason the car did not come with any keys/fobs. So I cannot start or drive it.

I have experience with using Techstream to program fobs, but cant really do it in this case since I need the car to be in "ON" using the ignition.

Does anyone have any ideas around it, can I somehow hotwire the car so I can erase old fobs and register new ones?

Any help would be appreciated!

Due to obvious security reasons , you can't. Will probably need a new security and key module .

did auction forget the key?

A Lexus dealer can reseed the system and program new keys to the vehicle without replacing any components beyond the new keys.

Some locksmiths may also be able to do this for you.

As far as erasing it yourself, I am not aware of any procedures to do so, nor would I be comfortable posting them if I did.

If possible, take it to a Lexus dealer and have them program everything for you...much faster and less headaches in the long run.

Thanks all for the replies.

I will have to go see the dealer most likely.

I did find a local mechanic who has extensive knowledge of Lexus electronics. I will call him and ask. If I find a solution I will be sure to post it for others wondering.

You rarely get 2 sets of Keyfob keys from an auction house sale. They just sell the extra one. I have never seen 2 Keyfobs given in all my purchase history for used cars.

Have you gotten a key programmed successfully? And if so what approach did you take

Hello,

So I ended up calling a locksmith who was recommended to me. They programmed a key in 20 min. Payed 300$ including the Fob and cut key.

The car started right up and I drove it in the garage. I think its well worth it considering It took me close to 3 hours to move the car off the street into the driveway because the front wheels were locked.

did you see what they used for programming? Techstream or some other stand alone tool? 20 minutes sounds about right if Techstream’s reset utility was used since it has a 16 minute lockout timer

Locksmiths typically use a versatile tool as they can not be tied to single brand tools. To expensive and hard to learn.
