I own a smart card key which was successfully programmed to my 2011 IS by JM Lexus. When I traded the car in for my 2012 IS I kept the card key, hoping to reprogram it to my new vehicle. I am here at the dealer and just got word from my service adviser that they were unable to do so. He said that the "frequencies are different" and that it was permanently attached to the 2011.

Do any of you have information which would contradict what I'm being told? I'd really like to use the card key again, rather than throw it away.

AFAIK you can program used keys but you have to do a master reset of the system, which is a lot more involved than the 5 minutes it takes to add a new key.
