Default Toyota Techstream question

Does anyone have experience using this software?
I purchased the cable and software in the link below, but it doesn't seem to work with my Acer laptop running Win 8.1. The software runs fine, but the cable cannot be connected to the laptop (software won't recognize it).

https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/...Id=32841498510

I have tried almost everything to get it going.
The PC shop I dropped it off at said I need to run windows 7 to get it working OR buy an older laptop that's compatible with 7 (7 cannot be installed on my 8.1 laptop). But since 7 isn't able to buy anymore, that's out of the question.

All of the other cables offered on the internet that are for sale all seem to be the same cable.

Any advise is greatly appreciated!

W8 is maybe worst version for anything. I run it on dedicated cheap old Dell laptop running W7 with 64 bit version. Works fine. But ATM, I don't have any Toyota or Lexus
vehicle in the family.or the time being. Laptop is shelved fpUsually symptom like yours is compatibity issue on USB driver. Did you ask the seller about it? I have several
desktops and laptops but one each stays on W7. All others are running W10.

I've asked the seller, but still awaiting a reply
At this rate since I still haven't paid the PC shop (they dont' charge you unless they actually accomplish what you wanted done). I'm considering spending 100 bucks for an old laptop that's running W7, just so I can use this setup.
Still cheaper than a visit to the dealer!

I grabbed one from eBay. It is old Dell Lattitude 14" display, 120GB SSD, i7 cpu, 4MB memory, bigger battery with charger with legit W7 64 bit. Having SSD it is pretty fast and just good size to load Tech stream.
There are some Youtube tutorials how to go about loading Tech Stream and prepare it to use it If you use 32 bit version Windows there is less things to do. Good luck.

I run it on Windows 10 64-bit,...but it you will need to do some tweaking. There are several sites that show you how.

I have the same issue. Tried some of these tweakings but not easy at all, maybe did something wrong. Win10 cable costs 3x more.

Got to follow the hack instructions to the tee. Also 64-Bit requires some work arounds with drivers and some file swapping. Overall if you are computer savvy it’s easy.

Update:
Bought a 32bit win 7 laptop and the software works WONDERFULLY!
Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread. The $122 CAD I spent on everything is an INVESTMENT
in tools for any other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicle I may own in the future. It's also certainly cheaper than a $tealership visit!

This evening I was able to connect the cable to the car and do the requested changes to the
climate and tilt steering that have irked me since purchasing the car last December.
Boy, how cars have changed since I was rebuilding engines in the late 90's!

Now I can look forward to years of trouble-free motoring in my Toyota (Lexus)!

Cheers!

Running TS 8.1 or 8.3 on Win7 64bit. As stated, when doing 64bit install you have to follow directions to the letter or the drivers will not load properly.

I am slightly bewildered at how long it takes to load any given module. Anyone else have this issue?

Sounds like the speed of the laptop, apps running in the background and/or internet connection. If it's and older win7 laptop then you're limited by ram, processor and HDD speeds, which is why some of us prefer to use win10 laptops. Once it's working,...enjoy.

Its not slow laptop has only 4gb of ram and an SSD. I never looked to see if TS hardware is USB3 compliant. I doubt it tho. The small modules like lighting and what not load fine its the engine stuff that seems sluggish.

What things has everyone been able to change using techstream besides the normal personalized settings?
