Default Techstream cable kit question

Before I order one of these $27 Techstream cable kits from Amazon, can anyone confirm that these work with 2014 IS?

Also, some of the reviews claim the software now runs on Win 8.1, not just XP. Can anyone here confirm that? 64 bit version okay?

If you're willing to wait a week or two I can let you know then.
I have ordered one and waiting for it to arrive from Asia. Should be here soon.

The link to Amazon includes cable + Techstream software. The instructions for the installation is poorly written and there are various links on the Internet on how to install. There's a link in the GS sub-forum called "Best diagnostics tool" but I can't find the link right now on the phone.

I ordered the cable, but I'm intimidated by the installation instructions for 64bit PCs, and I've never worked with a virtual machine either. I only have 64 bit laptops, but I have plenty of desktops running XP, and one of them is just 10' from my garage.

I doubt the MINI VCI cable is that long, so I'm wondering if I could use a 10-foot USB extension to connect to my desktop? Would a basic 10' Belkin extension cable be too long for it, or would I have to go to one of the "active" USB extension cables? I honestly don't know much about the USB protocols/standards.

Anyone know for sure???

I think you should be fine with the USB extension. Just as long as it is a quality one then wont drop signal when connecting to the vehicle.

Thanks. I ended up getting a great price on a 16' active cable by Rosewill (Newegg house brand/highly reviewed too).

It works fine. Make sure it's the updated one!

Which one is the updated one. I ordered from Amazon.

Do you mean updated cable or software?

So I just buy this cable, hook up car to a computer with software installed, and I can program the power steering?

So someone here has used the techstream on the 3IS already and it works fine with it?

Dumb question: Anyone know exactly where the MINI VCI port is located on the 2014 IS?

I assume it's under the dash somewhere?

Yeah, you need version 8+ for it to recognize the car. I tried v7 first and it only went up to model year 2012.
