Default Auto down shift?

I am on a road trip and this the first time auto down shift happened while I was pressing my acceleration pass 60 mph. It happened like 3-4 times, gear drops from 6 to 4/5 while I was maintaining the same speed, I notice it happens when I was going up on the ramp and I try to accelerate to maintain the speed and gear drops. Anyone ever had this happened to them before? Thanks

sounds like you have power mode on or your transmission speed is trying to catch up to your engine speed

Power mode is off, when it shifted to gear position 4, I was at 70mph and RPM jumped to 3k from 2k. Was pretty weird.

First I thought my driving mode went from "D" to "S" but that wasn't the case. (Happened to me before lol)

That's normal in any ECT mode (PWR, Normal, Snow); the transmission likes to drop a gear or two when you let off the accelerator and step on it again to allow for the car to utilize the right gearing for an overtake (for example). Ai-Shift as it's called (I think) or something like ai intelligent shift, I read it somewhere on these forums a while ago.

yes my hill is very tough on the cars.... any 4 cylinder cars will have lots of trouble going up it with more than just the driver.

this is very normal...

That's normal, mine does it all the time especially in power mode, it will downshift from like 6 to 5 or 4 depending on how much pressure yu apply to the gas pedal and it delivers more power

It's normal, mine has done this too.

Also - this is why some people prefer manuals. Complete control over the gears.

This is what an automatic transmission does, that's what makes it an automatic. It's completely normal.

Yes, this is normal. Your car is trying to fight gravity while on the hill....
