Default Shift while driving

Is it safe to shift from D to S while moving or vice versa? Within range of gears of course.

I do it all the time...

I want to know what happens if you do it at a high speed... (above 4th gear range, since it always locks it in 4th as the default setting)

It should move into the appropriate gear like 5th or 6th, but I don't know. I haven't tried shift on the fly yet. I just put it in the sport mode when the car is completely still. Then when the light turns green, I gun it in 1st, 2nd, etc. That's how I use it. I like to be able to shift from cruising mode, then pop it down to a lower gear when I want to. Since the default is 4th gear, I don't know what it would do.

I do it under 50 mph, because shifting from D to S at higher speeds (when the tranny is on 6th gear) will make the gear jump down to 4th...

I've done it several times with no problems. 70 to S mode and it was fine, no hiccups, no jerks, no nothing.

I do it all the time and at speeds of 70 and 80 MPH. Most of the time at this speed it is to assist in braking, when perhaps a vehicle pulls out in front of me etc. Often I also do this when on the highway and passing someone. It will automatically go into 4th gear but demonstrates no sign of over revving and you can quickly shift manually up or down from there. I also did this with my last vehicle which was an Infiniti FX.

I do it all the time especially on transition/connecting freeways. It's just like down shifting for better control. Even at 70-75mph @ 4th gear ur rpm will be below the redline(my tach doesn't even turn orange).Try it. It wont hurt the engine. Besides our car has safety features in the triptonic mode. It wont shift down for "unsafe" gear. You'll hear a beeping sound letting you know that it's not "safe" for the engine. Haven't revved my car too high(above 6K)but read it somewhere in the owner's manual. Next time try using the S mode from gear 1 and work your way up and see how fast u could go on 4th gear. (also check ur tach)

PS. TRD, just don't run ur engine on high rev for a long time. I usually shift to S mode then up shift 2 notches into 6th gear almost simultaneosly.

It shifts to 5 when you past the limit of the 4th gear. Perfectly fine, I do it all the time

Hmmm, sounds like I will be having a lot of fun with this. I'll try it out when I'm on the freeway next time. It's good to know that there's no way of messing up.
