OEM have a acorn shaped seat while aftermarket ones usually have conical shaped seat. Most aftermarket wheels use conical seat lugs. Aluminum lugs are weaker than steel therefore you must be very careful torquing them down. They are safe as long as you be careful.

My personal opinion is neochrome. It will look good with the color of your car.

I loved my Works forged aluminum lug nuts; never had a problem with them stripping threads or becoming lose.

Yes, you should use a different type/style of lug seat nut in order to be "safe".

I may be mistaken but I believe stock Lugs are flat, aftermarket tuner lugs for most all aftermarket wheels for our car use the acorn/tapered lugs. A lot of aftermarket wheels also have a narrower lug opening requiring new lugs anyways. Your friend may have been referring to your current wheels have a tapered lug opening and you're using flat ones, so that is not the proper wheel/lug combo

I vote for blue lugs so they will POP with the gold F brakes

I have goriila open end lug nuts. I broke the key on 3 different occasions. I use a torque wrench to torque them down so they are not over-torqued. Maybe I just have bad luck.

Most, if not all, aftermarket wheels are tapered lugs as opposed to Toyota stock's flat. Afford to buy wheels, should afford to by proper lug nuts. Don't risk your life using wrong type of lug nuts for your wheel.
