Default Headliner headache!

So I just picked up another 08 IS350 . Got it home to the garage and noticed a handful of dings in front of the sunroof .

Ding guy came over an looked at it and said the headliner needs to come down (not removed from car, just dropped). I removed all the pillar panels, handles, domes, etc. There are some clips along the border that easily unsnap, but the rest of it (center portion) appears to be glued in place. I pulled it down along the edge just enough to see above the center mass, but see no clips.

I will not force the issue and keep the dings , rather than ruin the headliner attempting to remove it. Those things are made of tissue paper and crumble if you breath on them to heavy.

Anyone know how to drop this headliner? Anyone done it?

Thanks

Uh, i don't know what dent guy you used, but I believe it's their responsibility to worry about how to access the sheetmetal, not yours. That's what they get paid to do.

I pulled my down to access the Sharkfin Ant. And it seems like you have to apply a great amount of force to release the clips. They are there and you just have to be patient and search methodically. They will come down.

Ding guy said $75 to remove the dings, $300 to remove and replace the headliner by a specialist...WHAT?!

How did you access them? When I attempt to put my hands in there, the headliner starts to fold...I don't want to crease it. That would suck.

If you sign up at www.alldatadiy.com, you can get the full shop manual instructions for how to remove the headliner. I have a convertible so the instructions there for me are totally different.

I've enclosed an example picture from alldata, it shows each clip and what kind of clip... This is worth the price of admission!

you take out everything from the top? (map light, handles, pillars) etc

I took mine out myself with no problem. I remember in the front the wiring harness' are attached to the headliner so be careful of that. otherwise its just a matter of pulling it down.. DO NOT REMOVE it tho because you will probably wind up creasing it and then it will just look bad. I got mine redone in suede so I didnt care about the creases.

I never did get the headliner fully dropped, but I found another ding guy that was able to work around from the edges and dome light hole. Those clips are held in something serious.

Thanks for the help y'all!

Sorry I didn't get back to you. I did have mine removed by my stereo shop si I didn't do it myself. They said it was a pain to get the entire thing out of the car though. Glad it worked out for you.
