You can certainly give it a try. I do know that audio cds are different from computer ones. You need to get the cds that say digital audio recordable. those are the ones you can burn in MP3 format and put a ton of songs on one CD
Data CDs will not work because I tried that before. You will need to burn them as MP3 files. I'm using a MP3 CD and it holds about 150 songs. It depends on the size of your songs. I use CD-RW discs so I can reuse it when I want to add more songs or delete some songs.
Yes, you can burn a data CD with mp3 files and it will play fine. You cannot, however, burn a data DVD with mp3 files and play it, even if you have a Nav/ML DVD changer in your vehicle. Also, you must be sure you burn the CD in ISO format, not UDF format.
I disagree with flektone on the need to use media designated as "digital audio recordable". I've used plain old data CDs for both mp3 file and regular audio CDs, and they work fine.
Ever consider an iPod integration kit? Just got mine and I LOVE it. Didn't think it would be that big of an improvement, but now I can't imagine going back. I think the best thing is that when it's set to random and I click to go to the next song, it actually is random! Anyone notice that with CD's? In random mode if you skip to the next song it sticks to the playlist and isn't random.

What kind of iPod integration kit did you get?
do you have the link?
Data CD will work fine so long as the file formats are supported (i believe MP3 and WMA are supported)
I tried to put 1 MP3 on a 700MB CD (formatted as a data disc) and play it in the car, but it just searches for music until it says "NO MUSIC" and plays nothing. However when using the CD as an audio CD the player will pick up the song. Obviously this option isn't preferable as audio CDs can only hold 80 minutes of music
