I have an IS250 that's two weeks old. Last night I was driving home on the highway going 80 mph, and I notice on my tach the engine is running around 6000 rpm. I switch the display over and see that the car is still in only 3rd gear. It stays that way for a couple more seconds until I ease off the gas a little and it goes to 5th, then 6th gear. I wasn't driving uphill any appreciable amount and I wasn't accelerating at the time. The car was just in automatic mode.
Does anyone know what's going on here? Is it a known issue? I was just going to wait and see if it ever happens again...or should I take it in for a check up immediately?

fortunately i have a manual, that is weird though how much gas were you giving it? some people don't know how to drive automatics, you have to ease of the gas a little and it should go into a lower gear, but if you keep your foot steady under weird acceleration then the gears won't change on the spot.
Hmmmm.... are you sure youre not in like PWR or SNOW mode and thats keeping the trans from shifting out for a longer amount of time. Check that, and if that does not fix the issue, perhaps you should try resetting your ECU (pull fuse, very simple, there is a thread on it I can post if you dont know how). Perhaps that will reset whatever is making the trans not shift sooner. OR maybe you just have a really heavy foot! Try those things and let us know.
I've had my IS350 hold a gear for what seemed to be a lot longer than it should have even in normal mode, this only happened to me when the car was still warming up though, so that may have something to do with it.
I've witnessed the same thing as Ramon; the transmission won't shift into the highest gears until the engine has started to warm up. (A characteristic I've only noticed in cold weather; now that it's warmer outside my car is already warmed up by the time I hit the highway).
Since you had time to change the display, and then a couple more seconds, before it shifted, I'd say that is not normal. I would leave your display in the mode showing the gear, and if it does something like that again, have it checked out.
The car was in Power mode, but I don't see why that would matter. As I said, I wasn't accelerating at the time. I was cruising along at 80. I was going 80 for at least 10 seconds or so before I noticed how high the rpm's were.
I do normally leave it in gear mode, but I had switched it to average mpg mode since I was nearing the end of my second tank. I'll just keep an eye on it and if it happens again I'll bring it in.
