hmm.... weird. I have MTEC kits and I haven't seen this problem. The XD kits come with a relay harness, don't they? Shouldn't that supply the correct amount of power straight from the battery to the ballast?

The problem is that it happens even if you don’t leave on the auto mode..

I have an Xenondepot Xtreme kit with a relay to the battery and never had any problems.
Although I've never used the auto on feature.Never liked it.

Maybe it's just a problem with this particular kit?

Has anyone on here plugged the kit directly into the stock harness and not to the battery? Anyone do that and not have this issue?

I plugged my HID fogs into the stock harness and not the battery and it never happens so maybe I might wanna try that with the main lowbeams as well. I'm just worried if I have two HID kits plugged directly into the stock system if I'll blow something. Are the lowbeams and fogs on seperate fuses? Anyone have both hid lows and fogs plugged that way? I wanna get this fixed.

I wouldn't recommend doing this.... Even if the fuses and/or stock wiring harnesses support the large current spike on startup, by hooking it directly to stock harness, you are sharing the circuit with a bunch of other stuff, like your instrument cluster lights, your interior cabin lights, I think even the navvy's "day mode" is setup to detect when you turn your headlights on... That 20kv (20,000 Volts) that gets applied across the terminals of the stock harness is something I do not want to share with anything else in my car....especially with how expensive Lexus replacement parts are....

That being said, you can try it on a temporary basis, and let us know if you see any flickering in your instrument panel when you turn on your lights. LED's will be the first to flicker because they are really sensitive to back EMF, this is a telltale sign that the large change in voltage will induce the reverse current that will screw with the other electronics in your car.

Nahhh I guess that's okay, sounds scary. I don't think I want to risk it. Thanks!

Okay I've done more research on this myself since nobody here seems to know anything. I went onto HID Planet forum where all the aftermarket HID experts are at and found this saying that the problem most likely has to do with the ballasts.

regarding one light not firing when turned on then works if switched off and on again..

"Its not a matter of needing the car on to start them, its a crappy ballast design - poor ignitors. I have come across a few kits that wont hotstrike (ie. restart a hot bulb) for a few minutes.

If you need 13.8V to fire the bulb when hot... Bad design. Hella ballasts will run up a hot bulb on 9.5V (IIRC)"

"the likely case is none other than the fact that its probably the cheap Chinese ballasts.

had the EXACT same thing happen to me on my first kit (Xentec from ebay).. tried replacing with thicker wires tec... nothing.. still intermittent problem..

i got better ballasts and the problem never happened again, it wasnt my wiring, it wasnt my bulbs, just cheap ballasts."

Well that sucks!! I wouldn't think that a Phillips ballast would be a POS. The ignitors that come with the kit are pretty generic though.

With the exception of the bulbs, I've swapped all components individually from the side that works to the side that doesn't and the same side still doesn't work.

I don't know... I just found that post on HID Planet yesterday night so maybe I'll PM them with this info. I don't know if they'll do anything about it though. I'll give them a link to this thread. They used to check this thread before but never offered anything other than it happens on some cars but not all so they don't know...

I have the xenondepot xtreme hid fogs but this problem happened to me even before I changed them out to the HID fogs.
