Default annoying hid problem

yeah well i have a little problem. i just got my HID's installed about a month ago and i noticed that if i leave my car on auto mode for the headlights and i turn the car on my drivers side headlight wont turn on until i turn the lights off and then turn it on. its just getting really annoying doing that every once in a while. so i looked to see if the wires were plugged in right and they were. can anyone help me with this problem???

I have XenonDepot 4300K kit installed since December 06,

samething happened to me once this week, passenger side didn't come on,

after i realized it, i turned it off and turned it back on, no problems yet,

which kit are you using?

i just thought, maybe ignitor didn't work well for that particular time,

should we worry about it?

Most people suggest to keep the auto mode off

I've had my XD HID installed for a few months now. I also leave my headlights in the auto position and this happens to me every few weeks or so. I checked and double checked my connections, and everything seems to be okay. Maybe the guys at XD could chime in on this thread since apparently it's not just me.

xenondepot suggests not to leave it on auto because having the hid come on and off in short period will deteriorate its life

just use manual switching whenever you need light

I also have the xenondepot kit with the same problem and this seems to be a normal thing with the kit... do a search on the web and look at other car forums; people all have the same issue. It must be the relay or the crappy connector on the ballast. I wish they would look into this issue... seems to affect many (but not all) of their kits

So is this problem mainly with XD kits?
or it goes for all HID kits?

Yes, it's true, that just like a flourescent light in your house, turning on HID's for short periods of time will shorten it's life, but I don't see how leaving the lights to the auto setting could affect that. I could see this being a problem if you drive thru tunnels, or the like. Turning my lights on manually vs. leaving them set in auto would make no difference as far as length of time they're on. If this is the case, does Lexus suggest you not use the auto on feature if you have the OEM HID's?? It shouidn't matter IMO.

I thought the reason for not having HIDs on during start up, was because of the voltage drop on the car while turning over.

If you watch the HIDs while you turn the car on you can see the HIDs flicker

Doesn't it ficker because you've the OEM HID and it's auto leveling at start up? or Do you've a kit?

In my 06, which was aftermarket, it DID NOT Flicker. Weird. I had the MTEC Kit

My 07, which is OEM does flicker. I will test it tonight to see if it flickers if I turn on the HIDs after I start the car.

My 1994 3000GT, which is aftermarket, Does Flicker

Its an easy test to see if their is a large voltage drop during start up on non-HID Cars. Wait till its dark, point your headlights at a wall.. turn the headlights on, then turn on the car.

If you see it flicker or dim during start up, thats a problem for HIDs.

You can go to the dealer and ask them to adjust the sensitivity of your auto on/off on the personalized settings. If you're too lazy to turn it on and off manually.
