That sucks, I would just suggest not leaving it on the AUTO setting and just controlling them manually. I have OEM HIDs and I still dont trust that AUTO setting.

Hi Guys.

I have been away for the last 2 weeks and just returned. This is why I did not respond to this thread nor were you able to send a PM.

This problem is not just on the IS. It happens on other cars that have this feature as well. The problem is that it is not a problem that always happens. We have sold this kit to many IS owners on this board any many of them have no problems using this kit with auto mode.

We did actually have several customers send back the kit for inspection and upon bench testing the kit no problems were found. Each component was tested indiviudally and no problems what so ever were found.

Has anyone actually tested the volate from the OEM headlight harness when the light is turned on/off in auto mode?

Steve

Wouldnt that be XDs job since they are the one developing and selling an after market kit?

The kits are not vehicle specific they are fitment specific. This problem does not happen with all cars. The problem may not be from the kit. The problem may be a result of the automode. The kits require a steady 12V from the OEM headlight harness in order to function properly. Its possible that in auto mode the kit is not getting this.

I have not fixed this issue yet myself. It sucks to be honest...

This problem is not only caused by using the Auto headlight feature. There are PLENTY of times i turn them on manually and one (usually the driver side) will not ignite. Then i have to go off/on/off/on until it lights.

With searching google and noticing all the other cars that have this problem with XD kits, it's hard for me to believe that this is a problem with the car and not something in the kit.

I did notice that if i have my headlights in manual mode and wait about 5 seconds after the car starts and turn them on, the odds of having them both light up are higher. Though, again, this doesn't always work.

I dunno what to do about it. It's too bad too because they're perfect when they do light.

Steve, Suggestions? Advice?

I usually have mine in auto mode, but sometimes the problem still happens when either manually turning them on, or even when in auto mode and it just gets dark while I'm driving, so it doesn't really matter whether it's in auto or manual mode. So far, I've switched the relay and the ballast from one side to the other. I'm going to try swapping the ignitors tomorrow.

thought it wouldnt happen to me but it did when utilizing manual mode. i think it has to do with turning on the headlights right when the car starts.

I'd like to bring this thread back from the grave to see if anyone has gotten any results or findings about why this happens and how to fix it? Apparently TONS of people have this problem but I've never seen anyone come up with an answer.

It happened to me again today with only one headlight coming on and I'm kind of sick of it. Seems to happen once or twice every other week for me. I don't like to get in my nice lexus only to wonder each time when I turn on my lights if one of them is out or not. Kinda pisses me off. If I turn off the lights and turn it back on a few seconds later it usually fires right back up. Anyone get this fixed?

I'm still experiencing the same problem. Not using the auto mode is not a fix to this. I usually keep mine in auto mode and sometimes I have to do the whole turn it off and back on thing, and sometimes that doesn't even work. Just as Steve mentioned, I've double and triple checked all my connections, and tried swapping components from the side that works to the side that doesn't work. So far, I've swapped components one by one and then use it until it I catch it not firing up. I've swapped every component (except for the bulb itself) including the wiring harness and my passenger side headlight still doesn't light up on occasion. Do you think the bulb could be defective? I would think that if something were wrong with the bulb, it would not light up at all. I'm going to try swapping the bulbs this weekend to see if anything happens. If that still doesn't work, I don't know what to say. That'll be the last thing I'll have to swap.

No it's definately not the bulb because I really did have a loose connection last time and Xenon Depot told me to swap components so the first thing i swapped was the bulbs. After doing so I my connection problem went away but I am still getting the same outtage with the different bulb. I also have xenon depot hid xtreme fogs and those have never gone out. I didn't install those to the battery like the main lowbeams however.

Do folks with NON xenondepot hid kits have this problem?

HID's require about 20kV (marked on ballast) to ignite the gases and heat up the salts within the capsule on cold startup. It's possible this large potential could induce some back emf that is screwing with the relay or stock harness (which also has a relay switch in it).

Check out this thread for the directions to fix it. It is really cheap and easy, and a least worth a shot to see if the problem will go away.
