When using the e-manual can you blow the engine, or is there a point at the redline when the car will shift? I drove a VW Passat that will shift at the redline, but have been too nervous to try it on my car. I can't afford to screw it up, ya know
Don't worry. There is a rev limiter on the car. I have hit mine a few times (once while racing), and the other times while at AutoX. It's not a great thing to do, but it does protect the engine.
also when downshifting you cannot downshift when it is in the redline area or high rpms sometimes.. it is safety procaution that lexus incorporated into the Eshift
It's a good thing you have E-Shift rather than a stick. Otherwise you would have blown up your engine. If you had a stick, you would have jammed that engine into gear and it would have either blown, or the rev limiter would have kicked in, and the car would lurch backwards, and my guess would be that you'd lose a bit of the tranmission (but I'm not positive what would happen in this situation). I only know it is no good.
So what were you doing trying to downshift while you were going 55? Why didn't you just break, or stay in 3rd until a couple of seconds before you needed to put the gas on again.
