Any way you like bro.
I usually let it pull all the up to red line before shifting. It should be fine for the engine, just use more gas than letting it shift by itself. Other than that I see no harm shifting at redline.
Car still new? Might want to let the engine breakin first though. Just a thought.

Definately wait until you've got at least 1k under the tires before you go and start redlining it. Even then I'd do it as infrequent as possible. After 2500 you should be totally in the green for doing anything to the engine.... Check out the other tread I have going about breaking in a new engine. That's where I got the above numbers.
You'll find that if you wait to shift until redline, you lose torque and flaten out your horsepower causing a slower gearshifting change. The best time to e-shift is at your peak-horsepower gain which is 5000 rpms. Shift between 5 & 5500 rpms for the maximum power displacement.

jsis - will that cause faster acceleration? i've always thought ( i may be wrong ) that shifting as late as possible was best (when trying to go fast) cause better acceleration happens in lower gears...
Lead Lap
Ive found that for optimum shifts shifting around 5000-5500 works best as well because of your reaction time of having shift manually(especially when gate shifting)

I usually shift between 5800-6000 somtimes will take it up to full redline but , I got boost so I want to have the higher Rpms'...
I would say stock like 5800 would be ok..not loosin power but also not shifting too early..

no need to let the engine break in you can drive it like you stole it from day 1

No you have to allow the engine to break it. Otherwise the seals inside the engine won't have settled completely. I've also noticed that when I hit 1700 miles that the far had more pickup, and then again around 2200 miles. Right now I'm at 2500 (the car is only 13 days old) so I'm totally stoked about the power that is has. I can't wait to put it on a dyno because I think that breaking in a virgin motor really easy allows the engine to have it's full potential, rather than retarding it later in it's life. We'll see when I get mine on the dyno before I add the exhaust, and intake.Originally posted by sooner

I have wondered what the answer to this question was too. Before i put my tanabe on i was kinda loosing power up in the high rpms. Now with my tanabe my car feels like it is a vtec and the rpms shoot up really fast once they hit 4600 or so. Its the sweetest thing. I could be loosing ground on someone and finally hit around 4500 and start gaining again. The tanabe gave me alot of high end so i think in my case i should shift at the redline, is this a correct assumption??

I know... but what can I say? I love my car. I can't wait until I can get the roll bars on there.... I'm going to have to wait until the RMM shop is done building their new race cars before I can get them installed. Then we'll see about the RMM exhaust, and intake.Originally posted by bcc002

However a Bimmer is just a flat overpriced car!
Either way we are buy cars from people who at one time wanted to kill us... makes you wonder what we are doing.
