Question afs off/ headlight washer button useless?

I recently just purchased a 2008 lexus gs350 and I have a few noob questions...

on the left drop down console I have the afs off and the headlight washer button but when I push them nothing seems to happen I don't think my car is wrecked or anything its still certified with lexus when I bought it anybody have an explanation for this? sorry I'm sure this has been covered but I've only seen one thread hardly brushing up on this topic in a week of lurking these threads.
I'm just guessing I have a base model of the gs 350?

also on the cluster where it tells me the milage of the car odo etc its blank all I see is the miles
I've seen other people's cluster with it showing rang gasoline usage per mile etc.. how do I fix? Mine looks super plain just showing the milage please! help its my first lexus I'm a total noob to all this luxury stuff

For the headlight washer, you need to have your headlights on in order for them to work. AFS is adaptive front lighting system, when it is on, it will turn with the steering input into turns. But it is hard to tell because the lexus headlights are pointing quite low. There is a DIY on this topic regarding on to change the angle of the lights. As for the info screen, you simply push the mode (or display, I can't remember off the top of my head) button on your steering wheel, it's on the right side right under the phone functions. Hope this helps!

Also the head light washers will come on if you use you windshield washers. As long as your headlights are on. So don't be alarmed when at night you use you windshield washers and you headlights dim for a second. They are just getting sprayed too..... And then gets you shiny hood wet.

also the head light washers only work at a certain speed because it uses the wind to clean the lens

if its 1 piece and there is no slot under the headlight then you do not have the washer

I also have an 08 GS350 with the same buttons but no features. Those buttons are just blanks. On 2008 those features were in a package: Rain-sensing wipers, Headlight washers, AFS. You either have all three, or none at all.

I know for a fact I have the rain sensor. I am brand new to Lexus and didn't know I had automatic wipers...I went threw a car wash, the wipers came on and I didn't know how to turn the wipers off... I was in a panic so I just shut the car off in neutral till i was pulled all the way through the car wash... then started it back up... now I know.. Thank God I didn't brake them....

You should be able to completely turn them off by moving the windshield wiper stalk to the upper-most position.

+1 Headlight washers sucks, im glad my GS didn't come with them, and also the cap for the washers on the headlights tends to get loose and lost and nothing looks greater than having a full trim without cuts on your headlights!

BTW, even if you car is not equiped with the Headlight washers the button is still present to "Activate" them

It should be a blank button if it's not equipped with headlight washers. If it wasn't then a lot of people would be complaining about a nonfunctioning button.

It could be possible that someone replaced the headlight trim with a non-headlight washer trim.
