Default Reducing noise from the fuel pump

Hello fellow CL members

I've been trying to get my dealer to take a look at my noisy engine. The loud clicking sound is getting really annoying. When at idle sitting at a red light, my car would click like my old - 1987 Toyota beater.. I brought it in 2 times to have the dealer check it out, but they would said its "normal" and that the high pressure injectors and fuel pump are loud on our 3GS. Ugh..

So i was wondering if anyone tried using heat wrap to try to reduce the noise from the fuel pump. It seems like the fuel pump is making the most noise.

Thanks
Mike

Let me know if that works. I've always owned Acura's and I have never heard an engine run so loud before, especially for a luxury model. You would think it would be the total opposite. Oh well, I've learned to live with it for now.

There needs a constantly repeated threads subforum to move these things into.

lexus engineers their cars to be quiet from the inside. who cares if it's a little loud for the peasants standing outside of it?

Yes this has been mentioned couple of times, its a annoying and at most cases Abnormal. I learned to live with it, I still get a question like "Why does you're engine sound so bad". I tell them all the new lexus have this sound. To my knowledge i know the IS250,IS350,GX460,RX350 and ES350 have it.

Maybe your car is not insulated enough, maybe the engine bay is missing something, if not than like others said turn the music up.

If I am correct, the fuel pump is located within the fuel tank. Let us know how "heat wrapping" the pump works out for you.

What you are hearing are the direct injectors working. The noise that is being produced was there the day you bought the car, and it will be there until you sell the car. Just live with it.

Talking The fix that a lot of people would like

The noise your getting is from the injectors and high pressure fuel pump, yes i know you already now that! The pump is the loudest one. Go to your dealers parts department and ask for the high pressure pump cover (right side) off a LS460. This cover will fit your GS high pressure pump. This cover will make your GS a lot quieter! Trust me!

Another thing just in case you don't know, the hi pressure pump is mounted on to of the right valve cover, the one next to the engine battery.

This is really interesting. Are you positive on this? Will the cover for the LS fit the GS?

I think that cover should. Since both an LS and GS460 have the same engines

I like this response, but well need more info and maybe few pics to clarify the confusion we are all having. Will it fit a GS350? How sure are you of this? Have you personally installed it? How much was it?
