I just checked on mylexparts.com and its seems like they are just clips that need replacing. Total price for clips is like $10 plus shipping. Question: Do you need to remove the nav and cd player to replace those clips?
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I've about had it with my car. Again, I love the look, I love the feel... I think its the best looking sedan available. But everytime I drive my car (90 degress now in NY) I get this terrible creaking from the dash and navigation screen. If you press the nav screen or around that area, you can duplicate the sound. Its just cheap plastic, plain and simple. I tried in my wife's car (a jetta) and it doesn't happen because her dash is not a plastic piece of junk. I'm so sad about this. Brought my car in what feels like 20 times and still Lexus of Bay Ridge hasn't been able to fix it. They always tell me its fixed, but then it never is. I'm fed up with bringing it in.
It makes me hate driving my car because when I hear those sounds I wonder why I paid so much money for this car and never had this problem in all of the much cheaper cars I've owned in the past. I'm probably going to post a video about this soon to illustrate my frustrations. I'm curious if everyone else has the problem with the dash. I presume so.
I've started looking into getting a new car and trading the GS in. Really last thing I want to do -- I've wanted a GS since I was 16 years old.
I'm also totally fed up with Bay Ridge Lexus. They have some of the worst service ever. I bring my car in, tell them what's wrong, they forget half the things I tell them and keep my car forever without giving me a loaner. They just come off as shady.
Yeah, same problem...i do the same thing too, i press the corners of the NAV faceplate, just to hear it creak. It's sorta like smelling your toe jam from a fresh nail clipping. We have the same story, when i was younger i jerked off to the 2GS so now that I have a 3GS, i wish i kept my old SC400. I wish i could love it more, the looks, the power, but once i start driving - the creaks, soft paint...it just grates on my nerves and i'm already looking ahead towards my next car. I still like the car, there's lots of reasons to, but feel a little let down by the overall finish.
Hah, yeah. Unfortunately it drives me so crazy my wife wants me to get rid of it. She is sick of driving with me and me talking about it. I just get so mad. I don't understand why everything else about the car is so awesome and they just put a giant chunk of plastic right in the middle of the car. Get into any other car and press the area around the middle of the dash and its rock solid. In the GS you press it and you can hear it. I'm confident there is no way to fix it with a complete redesign.
Hmm... i dunno if it's just me, but when i press onto the glove compartment door, my rattling noise will stop instantly... after readjusting the latch, the rattling is gone... i dunno if this will help you guys find where the noise may come from =)
