I've also got a slight rattle on the right hand side of the dash to the right of the center speaker. It doesn't do it all the time and it's not really loud at all, but I'm a freak about things rattling. It really drives me nuts.

I haven't taken it to the dealership yet, but I will soon. I'm sure it won't rattle at all for the them though when I take it in.

I noticed today that when I pressed down on the corner edge of the driver side or center speaker grilles (and presumably the passenger side as well), I could duplicate the noises I'm having from those areas. So, I pulled over, took a quarter and popped off all three grilles, prying them gently from the sides. I didn't hear another peep from my dash the rest of the drive.

Interestingly, I think the grilles are making at least some of the noise themselves. They make a creaking sound when I bend them ever so slightly. I think I know what is producing this. There is a strip of felt tape on the outside edge of the grille, presumably to prevent friction with the dash. Incidentally, it also holds the metal grille tight against the plastic cover. After removing the felt tape, I found that the grille would no longer make the creaking sound when I bended it. I think the tape is causing friction between the grille and plastic cover, and when the dash flexes, makes the sound.

Tomorrow I am going to apply some felt tape between the grille cover and the plastic and see if that does the trick.

Hoping I'm not on a wild goose chase here; has/does anyone else found anything similar with their car?

This seems to have worked for me. I added the tape around the edge of the plastic, put the grille back over it, and put another strip of tape around the edge. I also put teflon tape around the protruding plastic pieces that secure it to the dash for good measure.

Too soon too say if I'm rattle free from these areas, but sounds good so far!

I still have a couple of door rattles, but I think I induced those when I took the doors off the wired up my LED mirrors. Gotta go back and figure those out.

aren't you worried about the adhesive gunk from the tape?
that stuff leaves a gooey mess after a while

There's actually very little adhesive on the tape I ended up using (Johnson & Johnson post-surgery paper tape). It is very similar to the OEM tape I removed.

my rattle comes from the passenger side near the center channel, around the edge where the radio and dash meet, I think it might have something to do with the plastic dash we have its not dat bad though, it comes and goes usually when I hit a bump in the road kinda hard you will hear with the radio up u dnt hear it all

At $50K you are entitled! Also, I owned both previous GS and never had rattles over 190K combined miles in NYC streets. My 07 3rd Gen GS350AWD started rattling after only a few months. It required service more than once, but it was corrected. Rattles have returned but lease is up so.......Of course there was the NAV that had to be replaced soon after because it kept repositioning the car on the map.

Ok, so we all know there are rattles. But .....

has any dealer said, "no sorry, we don't fix rattles" ?

or

how many times has the 'repair attempt' not fixed it? How many times do you try?

Those who are too lazy to go into the shop, well, what can I say? Anyone out of warranty and paid out of pocket to fix rattles?

Just curious.

I'm still in warranty and have the dealership "attempt to repair" it everytime i bring my car in for a service, the last 4 times and STILL have the rattles. I've learned to live with them, they arent all bad. 90% of the time my radio is on anyways.

My rattles is around the NAV screen and sunroof (rare).

Would i still buy this car had i known this? YES!
Every car has its issues...right?

Before my warranty expired I brought my GS in for the dash kit...ever since then I haven't had a problem with any more squeaks and rattles. I love My 3GS.

What "dash kit" are you talking about?

Dealership takes your dash off and installs a "Dash Kit" to prevent squeaks and rattles. Other members have had it done.
