Can I get my run flat tire repaired/plugged from a nail or screw like a conventional tire? I picked up a huge screw or nail yesterday and it is still in the tire. I have never had run flats before so I am not sure if they are repairable. Thanks,

 

depends where the nails is on tire. sometimes it can fix it or not.

 

you can fix it as long as the nail is not on the sidewall

 

depending on the location they can repair it... some of the tires comes with the road hazzard warranty. if it does and you cant get them repaired then you should be able to get a new tire...

if you haven't lost all pressure, then maybe. but it's not going to be easy coz' it's so thick. if you are running on zero pressure already, then the tire is probably trashed

 

I faintly remember someone said run flat are not suppose to be fix in anyway.

Anyway, I never had and never will consider using run flat. Many ppl said it's noisy/heavy/and doesn't help much. Many ppl here even sell their run flat exchange for regular tires. Normal tire and a spare in my trunk is good enough.

 

yes, people recommended that mostly because even when zero pressure, the tire "look" the same. but fact is pressure and heat are already building up and put irreversible damage on the tire, that's why they need to be replaced, no option

but say you got a nail, you aren't actually leaking much air (say instead of 33psi, you are at 31psi). the tire is still "ok" in that term

 

^rominl, but the tpms will warn you almost right away and than just pull into an exit and put on the spare tire.

 

yes, of course. if you do that then of course the tire can likely be saved (and that's why i said it might be repairable)

but the whole idea of runflat is even at zero pressure, you can go at 60mph for like 100 miles? during this time, the tire actually "look" very normal. but internally it's actually riding on rubber and the heat will tear the tire apart. in that case, the tire is trashed

 

I was just reminded how bad the ride is with run flats....just replace them! Find a spare tire and swap out those tires.
