Thumbs up Replacing High Beams on 2007 GS350

OK here is the deal. Stupid to replace high beams (HB3/9005) w/ a xenon kit for the simple reason that you rarely drive with them on, and by the time the ballast fires you would most likely have them off.

Second, these high beam lights (next to the grill) are also your daytime running lights fed by less power when high beam switched off. So if you put a ballast kit on them, they would flicker like strobes if you are not using the high beams b/c low voltage would be sent to them causing malfunctioning of the ballast.

I found out best way to achieve a uniform look is to put 4300K to 6000K xenon kit in your fog lights and remove the fuse from your high beams so you dont have that annoying yellow stock *** look to them (unless you like it). With xenon heads and fogs TRUST ME you wont need high beams! If you make your fogs 6000K be sure to replace your stock low beam headlight bulb with a 6000K D4S bulb. The regular stock headlights are already 4300K D4S bulbs.

For a nice touch I also took the little wedge type light out of that high beam housing as well (parking light) and replaced it with a hyper white LED. looks good.

Sorry if my post seems jumbled, but I will put pics up. Let me know if you have questions.

i agree with some but not all

for the DRL, if you get technical you can always run a relay and feed full power during the DRL to fire up the hid as your DRL. and the main issue with hid as high is not about the frequency of usage, but it's about time. hid works differently from halogen.

halogen sees the power and it lights up. but hid needs high voltage and thus time to ignite. so it will take a bit time to fire up. a lot of time you flashes highs quickly to see things in front of you or to signal people. with this slow time, you pretty much defeat those purposes. not to mention firing and shutting down the ballast so quickly, you are killing the ballasts / bulbs big time

also unless you change the angle of the fogs or lows, i don't see how putting hid lows and fogs would eliminate the need for highs. there are still no light shotting "up". been there before with hid lows and fogs, roads were very clear right in front of me, but far forward i still needed highs

You still need high beams when there is no street light/other vehicles on the road. Like rominl said, low + fog won't cut it.

Also, if you don't like the "annoying yellow stock *** look" of the DRL, you can simply turn them off by a request at your dealersihp.

Thirdly, good luck with the LED parking lights. Many people have reported them flickering after a few months of use due to high heat in the housing.

The stock DRL/Hi-beam never bothered me because, honestly, I'll never be able to look at my DRL while I am driving. However, head lights and fog lights are different story because you do see the illumination at night.

There is no issue with color matching with the DRL as far as I am concerned, when the low beam is on, the DRL shuts off.

I really like the way this car looks.

I borrowed the image from another forum.
Thank you Flipside909.

Sure it looks nice, but look again. Hes has HIDs in low and fog and yet look at his light output. I get more lumens from flashlight

Hmmm...perhaps.
But then again it could be the angle of the shot.
If you were standing in front of the car in may look different.

Yeah but if you shine a flashlight into your eyes from straight ahead, you will be blinded too My point is, those lights are nice for showcars, but noy pratical for everyday driving.

bottom line is 8000k or above have a lot less usable light on the road, that's a fact. it certainly looks cool, but to me safety is more important
