Exclamation Abnormal idle RPM???

Hey guys, it's been extremely cold here last week (-20 windchill) and finally when the weather got nicer on Saturday (actual temp in the 30s), I started the car and took a drive. However, the idle RPM was going anywhere from right below 500 (engine almost dies...) to almost 2000. I waited for 3 minutes for the car to warm up hoping it would go away. It did get a little better (smaller fluctuation) but as I drove away, the RPM would randomly drop as I accelerate. After driving for about a mile, I floored it at a light and the car took off, but the RPM immediately took a plunge in first gear so the whole car jerked. Then the same thing happened between the 1st and 2nd gear shift. Finally after about 15 minutes, the abnormal behavior almost went unnoticeable. I am going to take the car in soon. I have read the vibration thread from awhile ago but it seems like a different problem and therefore I'm starting a new thread. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks. I'm not too worried about it but I have never encountered this behavior in my previous cars.

abnormal, even in single digit weather.

Maybe some bad gas that sat in your car for a longer than usual time period?

Take it in if it persists.

Maybe a battery problem? I know that newer cars can have a whole host of problems if the battery is out of spec.

I would say take it in to the dealer and have them check it our for you, because I have the similar problem with mine and the weather here is very cold as well....

Hmmm, the car sat there for 6 days before. I always use premium although the premium here is 91/92. I'm going to take a drive later this week and see if the same thing happens. Thanks guys, this must be an isolated case.

Well, I'm taking the car in on Tuesday the 11th. The SD manager said he'll leave the car out overnight and start it on Wednesday morning but the projected weather for Wednesday is 33-58... Might not be reproducible, sigh... Maybe I'll have'em take a look at the very faint rattles too while they're at it.

Maybe just a combination of the cold weather and not running it for 6 days. I hope it all turns out okay after your appt. Keep us posted. I bet you've been driving the Tahoe alot this winter.

Take care....B
