what's your idle RPMs????
I took the car for emmisions testing and I saw on the sheet that the idle RPM was 733... I've noticed that too that my RPMs are higher (up to 1000) when the car starts and stay like that till about 2-3 minutes till they drop down to about 500 or less... is that something I should be concerned about??

Mine idles at about 700RPM (all readings off the tacho, so all rounded off...) when warmed up, but I've had instances where she's idled at 500RPM, 800RPM (no a/c operating), upto 1600RPM on first start up.

That is perfectly normal. It all depends on the temperature. If the weather is cold the car will start off with higher RPM until it warms up and drops to about 500 to 700 RPM (depending whats running, heater, A/C, etc etc). The max RPM the engine will go to with a cold start is 2000.
Use a search I belive this was dicussed to death before.
I observed the correct numbers via my Apexi S-AFC.

This is according to my S-AFC readout. I get pretty much these numbers 90% of time with very little variations.
This is on a 1992 SC400 with 85k miles
Idle with gear in Park 620RPM
Idle with gear in D position stepping on brake 565RPM
Idle with gear in D position with A/C @ 72degrees and fan @ 1bar blowing to feet and defrost 705RPM
Idle with gera in Park with A/C @ 72degrees and fan @ 1bar blowing to feet and defrost 715RPM
the maximum differences at each level is 20RPM at any given outside conditions.

Actually no.. I haven't . I asked because this was not happening when I purchased the car so I thought there might something not right with it. Now from what I've read here I see that it's normal for the most part. If I'm wrong let me know.

Thanks sc4canada. That combination works good for me as I'm a conservative kinda guy and wanted something subtle yet effective. Now if I was 20 years old again my tastes would probably be different.
