Default IPod?

Hey There All:

I'm a current LS owner; I test drove the GS 350, fell in love, and will be picking up an '07 in the coming weeks.

Is there any line-in capability on the factory stereo? I know that there are some after market iPod add ons, but these seem to conflict with XM (which is a must have for me).

Anyone out there have any solutions for the iPod addicts? :-)

Thanks,
Mark

Nothing factory delivered that I know of. Sounds like you've already done some research but be sure to take a close look at the Vais and Scosche aftermarkets. Gives full control of both sirius and factory components through the head controls. I dont remember reading anything about XM limitations but could be. Just be sure to give it a good look.

The '08s have a line-in for MP3 players, but you have to use the AUX setting and can't see or control anything on the screen for your iPod. Lexus dealers are, however, now offering an iPod interface and this is what my salesman told me about it:
"Controls the iPod through the radio buttons and

steering wheel audio controls

• Displays the music text information on the radio’s

display

• Has the ability to search and play back by song,

artist, album, audio books, genre and even play

lists

• Provides direct high quality audio connection

• Charges the iPod while the vehicle is running

• Comes with all cables necessary to get started

• Glove box location enhances security by keeping

the iPod out of site

The system has retail price of $299.00 plus tax installed.

Just one note the system has CONFLICT with xm radio so the vehicle can only one or the other system not both."

Right now, I"m using my line-in and works well, but you have to keep the iPod in the cup holder or something for changing songs. I have asked my salesguy if you can use the touchscreen aspects while the vehicle is in motion with the interface, but he hasn't replied to that email yet. I'm guessing not, considering that you can't use much when you're moving,....

vais might be worth checking out since the 07 doesnt even have an aux in and this module gives ipod control via the stereo head/steering wheel. have been satisfied with the sirius counterpart.

or this might be what jenadamson is referring to (i think it's still in the 'coming soon' stage' you'll have to wait).

The Sewell link must be what my salesguy is talking about,... Looked at the VAIS stuff too, but am definitely not going to do something that I have to install myself that requires any disassembly of the car,...(although there are very nice descriptions and pictures of how to do it in this forum )

Hear you. I didn't install my vais. I contacted them and they gave me names of stereo installers near me that were familiar with their product.

The lexus promoted product wasn't available when i bought. I don't know what to make of the xm conflict. didn't run into that with my sirius.

I am waiting for the Lexus designed IPod interface. Does anyone know if it is available now? I hate having to search from my ipod every time i want to skip or repeat a song.

The Sewell web link above has been changed from coming soon to 'in stock' so maybe the wait is over. Give them a call or email from their web page.

The Vais install isn't that bad, it took me about an hour. No cutting, no soldering, nothing more than plugging in a few connectors into the back of the head unit and routing a cable into the glove box.

Sure, I was a little nervous taking out the nav unit for the first time but I'd do it again without hesitation.

Subsequent to having mine installed I took out the nav head to install the plug n play nav unlock kit. Likewise I'd do it myself knowing what I know now. Big plus that Vais works well with satellite radio. Not sure what the 'conflicts with satellite radio' thing is with the Lexus kit. Let us know if you try it out.

The Sewell Lexus kit appears to be available now. I contactd them but they have yet to call me back.
having just done the nav override myself, it is a pretty simple thing to remove the nav unit and install something back there.

Gator,
Sorry, not to hijack this thread, but are you having any issues with your nav override? Can you please let me know which unit you have? You can e mail me at speed28us@yahoo.com. Thanks
