Is there a way to view the reverse camera while driving. Well, not really driving, but like when I'm at a stop. Sometimes I wonder how close some people get to my car, and I figure now that theres a camera back there, I can tell. Is there a way to make it turn on?
Good question, I've wondered about that myself, like a giant rear view mirror, particularly to cover the blind spots that always seem to be there when you're driving down the road.
I would use it at a stop, but I can see how it would help in a lane change. You could see at a glance (don't stare at the screen while driving) if there was a car coming up in the side lanes.)
I wonder if its as easy as a one wire toggle switch? You know, like it detects when the car is in reverse so camera goes on.
Does the camera come on as soon as you put the car in Reverse, or do you have to be moving in Reverse for it to come on? If it's the former, when at a stop light, you could apply the brakes, and just shift into Reverse to see how close the car behind you is. It might scare him/her to see your reverse lights suddenly pop up, but of course you wouldn't be moving, and it would be for just a few seconds.
Also you wouldn't want the outside mirrors to tilt down while you're driving. As far as staring at the screen, good advice. I've found myself wandering a bit when I'm looking at the navigation; but you shouldn't stare at the rear view mirror for the same reason.
