Default GS300 Help - Locking doors when driving off

I just took possession of my new GS300 and I used to drive a BMW where all the doors will lock automatically when the car reaches 5mph. Is this feature found in the GS? How do I get this feature activated if so.

Thanks (from a 1st time Lexus owner)

on my GS430, it automatically locks when I put the gear to drive. or you can change to lock the door at 13mph at the dealer when you take it in for personalize setting.

welcome! and congrats on the new GS

the manual has a lot of info. there is an entire chapter on door locks and key functions. Pgs 7-42 to be exact.

For the speed function (lock at 12mph instead of when shifting out of P), this is on Pg 38. The trick is, you have to CANCEL the shifting out of P in addition to SETTING the 12mph locking. In simpler terms, do this:

1. get in your car and close door
2. press start button twice, WITHOUT foot on brake pedal
3. press and hold LOCK on your door panel
4. count 1-one thousand, 2-one thousand, 3-one thousand, 4-one thousand, 5-one thousand
5. release immediately after 5-one thousand, doors will lock/unlock to confirm
6. turn off your car completely (press start button once without foot on pedal)

Then set for 12mph lock:

7. press start button twice, WITHOUT foot on brake pedal
8. put your foot on brake, and shift into N eutral
9. press and hold LOCK on your door panel
10. count 1-one thousand, 2-one thousand, 3-one thousand, 4-one thousand, 5-one thousand
11. release immediately after 5-one thousand, doors will lock/unlock to confirm

good luck

yes, only for the door locks. some of the other settings cannot be changed without the help of the dealer . . .

I just made the change from auto lock when shift out of park to auto lock at 12mph. I like this locking much better than the lock when shift out of park.

I followed the procedure just as lexuslover and the manual explained. I want to add that the procedure should be done quickly in one fluid motion. Don't pause after depressing the start button. Although I didn't see it in the manual, I found I had to first cancel the old method before setting the lock at 12mph, just as lexuslover said. It took several tries, but just about when I was going to give up, I hit the magic sequence properly and it worked fine.

Why not just have the Lexus techs do it? It's supposed to be free one time if you have it done within the first year. Check your maintenance manual...C-Best is the first scheduled service.

i actually did. but they forgot to take OFF the locking when shifting out of P, so it would still lock when i shifted out of P even though the 12mph thing was set...

when i got home i read the manual and figured it out.

also, they got rid of the former complimentary 1k service for the "LPS" settings, but it sucks to have to make an appt and drive all the way to the dealership to have them do what you can do yourself (unless you want to change some of the other LPS settings that require their help). the best thing would be to have the salespeople get your preferences before delivery so they can set it up to your liking once you leave.

Because I didn't want to wait 1000 miles before I changed the lock operation (at that time I'll have 5000 miles and I'll take the car in for service). And it's a very easy change to make.

I had a 2001 Cadillac STS before the 2006 GS and all of the user option type programming was done through the driver's information center, you didn't need hacks and you didn't need a dealer tool.
