Default Frustrated!!!

Well after 2 days at the dealership you would have think they would have gotten it right, I brought my new 06 GS300 for them to redo the tint on the driver side windows ( large bubbles in the windows ) and to install a clear bra on my car. After arriving at the dealership to my amazement they redid the side windows, but forgot to redo the back window, and only installed the clear bra on my hood, and not my bumper which to me really defeats the purpose on having one if you're only going to install it on the hood. Anyway I kept calm and pointed these things out to my service advisor, and the assistant manager that I wanted the car done right. They told me it was a miscommunication and they will correct the problem ( I hope ) . With the back window I could see someone overlooking it, but the clear bra installation????? Sorry, I had to rant, I had so many problems in the past with this dealership, that I bought both of my cars out of town, and only use them for service........I may have to re-think about going to Lexus of Austin in the future.

actually hood is much more prone to chips than bumper since bumper is more flexible, so there is sense in the madness :-). Of course, bumper is much harder to do as well :-).

On mine they put the clear bra on the hood, the front part of the fenders adjacent to the clear hood bra, on the mirrors and inside the door handles. I think the bumper is plastic so maybe it doesn't need it.

Ok here is the latest, Lexus told me that they don't have the piece for the front bumper which still doesn't make sense to me, especially when they quoted me the hood, and bumper. So now I'm going to be more out of pocket to go aftermarket, than I would if I went that route in the first place. I was quoted at 2 different places at about $400, the dealership is charging me $286 for the hood that they done instead of the $395 first quoted, so now going somewhere else just to do the bumber is going to be at, or around $200, so I'm going to be paying almost around an extra $100 if i just went aftermarket in the first place. If anyone has a Lexus part## for the bumper please let me know.

Not for me. Unfortunately, I have several rock chips on my bumper. To this point my hood is chip-free. I wish I would have known about clear bras before I drove the car off the lot.

Items such as clear bra and tint through the dealer is generally a mistake IMO. I know you can order a precut bra for the front at www.aeroshield.com. Ask for Francisco, tell him you just need one cut and shipped to you and that you're a CL member. Then you just need to find a competent installer- that's not an easy install. Plus, most kits include 3 mm film for the headlights and fogs- check to see if those are on there or else Francisco can cut those too- you need them. My last GS had frosted headlamps after about 20k miles. Good luck!

Long- it's never too late. Do a professional touch up with some light color sanding and buffing (check the paint&detail forum) and get it installed. If you're stressing now I guarantee you'll be catatonic later!

Default The latest......

Well, it's been almost a week since my $400 dollar clear hood piece has been installed, I still have bubbles in the clear mask, it's hazy, and I'm totally not happy with it, I can't believe they told me they gave me a break on the price and didn't do the side mirrors, or inside the door handles. I'm waiting for the parts manager to return my call so they can take it off, and refund my money. If it wasn't blurred, and hazy, I would just leave it on.

Get your money back if you're not happy. Remember, there are dramatic differences in the types of film out there. I held the 3M and the Venture side by side in my hand and the Venture is way better. The 3M had a yellowish tint, had significant orange peel and could be pulled apart like saran wrap. The Venture was clear, smooth and about 10 times stronger. Make sure you're getting the right stuff!

Venture film is the way to go!! When my clear bra was installed the guy at the shop told me I might see a little haze that should clear up in two days, he also told me if for any reason I am not happy to bring it in and he would take care of it. Don't settle for bad service, make them make things right!!!

Quite true; however, having the clear bra on the from bumper will facilitate the removal of bugs and tar. I also would suggest clear covers for the head and fog lights and side mirrors.
