Morning ladies and gents and hooligans. I recently purchased a 99 gs300 in MINT condition. LOVE IT. So to the point of this thread, I pulled up to the sound barrier wall to adjust my headlights to make sure everything was level. I noticed that it had a crisp cut-off line as if it was an HID headlight.
My question: Is it possible that these are HID headlights and someone just put halogens in them? Or do the halogens also have a similar cut off pattern to the HIDs?
Does the headlight beam move up and down when you start the car? Are the fog lights yellow? If so, you have stock HID headlights.
Learned something today. I didn't know that the HID cars came with the stock yellow fogs. I love the yellow fogs. I see that you have them also. Is the housing tinted yellow with regular halogen bulbs OR is the housing regular with yellow halogen fog bulbs?
This is something I'm looking at installing on my car. I'm pretty much like you (saw your thread on your car...I almost uploaded photos of my stock car in your thread lol). I plan on just keeping my car stock, with a few classy mods here and there. The only thing I've done so far is add the chrome 17" and I painted my calipers red with the white decals.
cmon guys connectors are different.. the bulbs mounts are different... u cant use a ballast on halogen...
Halogen = 9006 bulb
HID = D2R/S Bulb..
100% totally different bulbs and cannot be crossed.
halogen headlights with halogen bulbs should yield a simular cutoff compared to the HID headlight counterpart.. once you put an HID kit on your halogen headlight it all goes to poop after that with major glare.
The halogen lights in these cars are actually really good for a halogen, and they do have a cutoff pattern, it is flat and flares up to the passenger side. But it is not nearly sharp like a projector and has a bit of spillage, but is decent and distinguishable nonetheless.. The closer you pull up to a wall the more pronounced it will be, but further away it really starts to bleed off.

Non-hid housings have levels mounted on them also.

Thank you for the info. This is exactly what I was wondering. I do not want to put HID in a Halogen housing, I think it is irresponsible.
