how to tell HID'S from Halogens off the car
Im looking to purchase an extra set of HID'S headlights (used) so that I can play around with modding them out......however most of the ones I find for sale are already out of the car and the seller cant tell me if they are the autoleveling Headlights. Ive searched and searched and haven't found the answer yet.... Is there a way to tell by looking at the headlight assembly that's not attactched to the car if they are the auto leveling type HID'S?????????? And am I correct that if they are HID Version headlights they are the auto levels models 06-08??? So if I see a ballast connected to the back of the headlight im safe to assume they are the HID auto leveling functioning headlights?????

HID's would have a ballast and an auto-leveling motor. Halogen headlights do not.
HID's also have 2 alignment adjusters and halogens only have 1.
The low beam socket for the HID's have a metal retaining clip to hold the D4S bulb, the H11 halogen bulbs just turn in and twists.
The connector for the low beam bulb on the HID's has a metal cover with a single pin in the middle, the halogen one is a small 2-pin plastic connector.

Just like Jeff mentioned, HID will have D4S so make sure the kit you are buying comes with the ballasts so you don't have to go hunt for them separately. Buying it as a combo ensures you that the kit is genuinely HID set.
