Default security

I was just thinking.

How sensitive are our car security systems in the GS?

like what will set them off? because banging on the car doesn't do it. opening the doors from the outside while it's locked sets it off, but what kind of theft deterrence is that?

with my 540i, if you come within 1 foot of the car when it's armed it goes off

the system on the GS is passive, not active. there is no shock sensor. if you for the door open or so it will go off, but banging it isn't going to do anything

Roll down a window.

Stand outside and arm the car with the remote.

Wait about a minute.

Now reach through the window and try to unlock the door by using the interior latch.

Now try to open the door using the outside handle.

Let me know what happens.

factory alarm is extremely weak.

If someone pops your door lock and gets in..the stock alarm will not go off!

I also belong to another forum. "Maximaforum.org" . Some of the guys on there have installed a sound, and glass sensor directly into their factory alarms. They run the sound sensor with diodes inline directly to factory wire for the hood or door pins. When the sensor detects noise level or glass breaking it will trigger the factory alarm. I've done this to my Maxima, and cost $40. It works really good. Has anybody tried this(piggy backing the alarm system) to the GS factory alarm?
