Default A Future Purchase

First I would like to say hello to all the members. I am new and I have a quick question, since I was 19 I've wanted a first Gen GS, two years later and a car that is a couple months away from being paid off my question is do you all think that it's a good idea for me to purchase a 1st gen GS? I really want one but I have to put into consideration the age of the car, despite it being a Lexus, it being older there are problems that I might incur. I have seen a couple on the internet with very low mileage. I've seen one with 32xxx, but I know they are very difficult to find becasue of the rarity. And, if I do decide to purchase on are there problem that I should look for? I could've asked my peers but I know you all are bias and you will tell me what I want to hear.
Thanks in Advance.

I would say that getting a 1st generation GS300 is a great choice. Everyone
I know here would prolly agree they have very little maintience issues. I've
got well over 200k on mine. If I had the money I'd sell my Lexus, and get a
lower mileage 1st gen without even thinking. This car is fantastic. I'll be
owning a 1st gen GS300 for as long as I can possibly imagine. I can't fathom
a reason at this time why I would ever give it up (except for a lower mileage
one, and that's only cuz I wanna have it LONGER).

Even with low miles, the car will probably need things such as a rear main seal, power steering reservoir o-ring, trans selecter and selecter shaft seals, front main seal, etc. Those are not big issues, but you may find some leaks even with low miles because time and the elements still affect seals. Those are the only things (well, I haven't had to do the front main seal yet) that I've done to my 1994 GS300 that are age-related. The car has 149,XXX on it now. Make sure the power steering rack doesn't leak.

Hello. Well, for what it's worth, I sold my Audi A4 Quattro to buy my 1996 GS300. My GS has been in our family since '98. It was my father's. I bought it nearly two years ago and I've got almost 150K on it and it's still running very strong. Granted, there are some "squeeks and rattles" that will come with owning any 10+ year old car. But I can honestly argue that my GS has only a couple more of those type of issues than my wife's 2006 Honda Pilot! The first gen GS is a solidly built car. It may not handle like my old A4, but I certainly feel it will last longer with a lower total cost of ownership.

My '94 GS has been fairly reliable, but then again, at only 45K miles, it should. I've had no oil leaks to speak of, paint and body were in excellent shape, and it was also well-maintained by the previous owner.

However, age creeps up on every car, even Lexuses. I've needed a new engine computer, throttle position sensor, and an alternator in the 2 years I've had the car. It also needs seat motor repair, but it's not bothering me, as it's just right. But otherwise, it purrs almost as sweetly as a new Lexus and doesn't rattle one bit (I drive my fair share of them at work).
