It really is a bizarre oversight that Mercedes decided to make this its own standalone vehicle instead of just offering a pure EV version of the S-Class, like BMW is doing with the upcoming 7 Series and Genesis with the G90. The S-Class is supposed to be the epitome of Mercedes tech, and for it to be neglected as an EV goes against its very image.

I also agree about the Civic/Sonata shape that the EQS has.

Not even on sale yet. How can it be an oversight already.

Ha, I was going to reserve judgement till it was fully revealed, but this exact generation Civic was the first thing that came to my mind as well.

Because they are missing the market for this car. Many flagship buyers don’t want a weirdly shaped EV style car, we want a proper flagship sedan that the only difference is it’s an EV.

But the Taycan or the E-tron GT cant claim the best drag coefficient in the world at .20.

I think we should reserve judgment until the entire car has been revealed because the length of the car and design could still win us over, versus that profile pic of the civic. With a .20 drag, not only are we talking about range benefits but wind/sound benefits as well, which we all know is important in an EV because of the silent drivetrain.

It probably has more to do with rear passenger space than drag coefficient. The Model S has a higher drag coefficient but will still be both faster and have a better range than this.

That long wheelbase, extended cab-look seems to be the defining trait of newer EV's like the I-Pace, Kia EV6, and Ioniq 5. The Mercedes doesn't execute that proportion nearly as well as the aforementioned three though.

I agree.. So far I don't like the camo design of what we see...but it would be good to view the final offering.

This looks great to me.

This one not so much.

But do we really care about the drag coefficient? I don't even know what my car's drag coefficient is...I know its beautiful and extremely quiet inside. One of the big issues here is everybody is playing to EV fans and EV early adopters with this design. MOST buyers are not those things, and there is a huge market for a great EV car that looks like a car. A new EV model doesn't have to look weird. The whole interior doesn't have to be a screen.

So far the only companies that seem to understand this are Audi and Volvo. Their EVs look like cars.

Lexus used to brag about it with the LS. .25 with the 430. Your Mercedes set the record when it debuted with then hybrid model which I think was at .23 or .24. At .20 for the new EQS is quite an achievement

I think the younger folks like the idea of a giant screen

But they achieved these things with the cars still having an attractive shape and great proportions. I'm not going to buy a car that I think is ugly because it has a low cD.

The market they are playing towards certainly does. BUT, if EVs are really going to become mainstream, they need to market cars to mainstream consumers as well.

The Prius is not what made hybrids mainstream. The hybrid Camry did.

I agree. I do think the screen is pretty cool. To make it stand out I figure it needs this screen. I wouldn’t want it tho.

When i ingest enough cannabis edibles on the weekend....the screen blows my mind away as Mercedes is attaching this rediculous immersive experience to a car that needs no gasoline and is from a historic, and storied brand... this is the way these cars are going

The screen doesn't bother me, and its an option. The shape of the car though is a total deal breaker for me.

What I was expecting was an EV S Class and thats not what this is. BMW is coming out with an EV 7 and Audi and EV A8 those cars I would definitely consider.

I think the difference here is that I dont necessarily find the shape as offensive as you. Again, I think we should wait until the final reveal to decide whether this car is good looking or not.
